Coming up at the Briggs
Jr. Readers
Are you a 7-9 year old who loves to read? Join the Junior Readers Book Club for a fun-filled Valentine’s celebration. We’ll be discussing the book “February Friend” by Ron Roy. Copies of the book can be picked up at the Circulation Desk after registering. There will also be a craft, game and sweet snacks during the program which will be on Monday, January 30th from 7:00-8:00. Registration begins on January 3.
Late Fees
Starting January 1, 2012 the Briggs Public Library will be charging fines on all overdue items. This will include all items that are overdue on that date regardless of when they were checked out. The reason for late fees is to encourage patrons to return their materials on time so another individual can make use of the item.
Fines will be $.10 a day for books, magazines, audiobooks and interlibrary loan items of the same nature with a cap of $5.00 an item. The fine on late videos (dvd 7 vhs) will remain $1.00 a day and will now include interloaned videos and sound recordings with a cap of $18.00 an item.
Patrons will be restricted from checking out any additional items when the amount of fines on their account exceeds $5.00.
There are ways to avoid accruing fines. Keep track of your due dates either by the due date stamped on the item, by accessing your patron account online via the Library catalog or by contacting library staff. You can renew an item if no one else is waiting for it either by accessing your patron account online via the Library catalog or by contacting library staff. Library Staff, if you have an email on file, can assist you in setting the system up to email you once a week. The email will include the titles you have out and the due dates.
There are also steps in place to help patrons determine if they have fines. Staff will notify you at checkout if you have fines.
You can access your record online through the Library catalog, login, go to My Account and select the Fines and Fees tab. If you have an email on file, a notice will go out when the item(s) are five days overdue and ten days overdue. An overdue letter sent through the postal service when an item(s) is four weeks overdue. If you need assistance in accessing your patron account online, please let Library staff know and we would be happy to walk you through the process.
