Does the Mackinac Bridge Labor Day Walk sound like a good idea … yet it’s too far away for you to participate? This year, you won’t need to travel all the way to St. Ignace to join in Michigan’s Labor Day walking tradition. Carson City Hospital will be hosting a Labor Day Community Walk to help encourage active behavior in the community.
Carson City Hospital is organizing a Community Walk on Labor Day – Monday, Sept. 6 – at West Park in Carson City beginning at 9 a.m. as part of the Labor Day Community Walks that are held throughout the state in conjunction with the Mackinac Bridge Labor Day Walk. There is no charge to attend the walk, and no pre-registration is required. Community Walks help provide a similar experience to residents unable to participate in the annual walk across the Mighty Mac.

“A physically active community means a healthier community,” said Bruce Traverse, FACHE, President and CEO of Carson City Hospital. “We hope everyone takes advantage of the wonderful opportunity to enjoy Carson City’s beautiful West Park while walking your way to fitness and health.”
Carson City is one of several Michigan communities holding a Labor Day Community Walk. Walks like this are important steps toward helping citizens lead healthier, more physically active lives. By hosting local walks, Michigan communities are able to demonstrate their commitment to healthy living, physical activity and community involvement.
“By holding local events all across the state, we hope to double or even triple the number of walkers on Labor Day and bring attention to the importance of physical activity for the health of Michigan,” explains Marilyn Lieber, president and CEO of the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports.
“Every Labor Day, thousands of Michiganians participate in the annual Mackinac Bridge Walk, and as Governor, I’m proud to lead the way across the bridge that links our beautiful peninsulas,” said Governor Jennifer M. Granholm.”
A physically active Michigan means a healthier Michigan. Take advantage of the wonderful opportunities to enjoy Michigan’s beautiful parks, trails and lakes while hiking, biking and swimming your way to fitness and health.
