Carson City Hospital Partners with CMU

Central Michigan University College of Medicine

Cason City Hospital and Central Michigan University (CMU) College of Medicine recently developed a partnership to provide clinical training to the university’s medical students. As part of the college’s clinical experience, students will have access to Carson City Hospital (CCH) facilities, physician and patients.
This agreement falls under CMU’s commitment to help train physicians who will practice in central and northern Michigan. The CMU College of Medicine will enroll its first class of students in 2013.
“This academic and health-care facility partnership will create new opportunities for both organizations,” said CCH President and CEO Bruce L. Traverse, FACHE. “CCH has a long history of being a teaching hospital, and we look forward to embracing that heritage and welcoming CMU students into our facility to learn and develop as health-care professionals.”
Traverse said that it makes sense for CMU students to receive training in rural and small community settings such as offered in Carson City, since these locations are currently experiencing severe physician shortages.
The agreement between CMU and CCH will remain in force for seven years, providing students with clinical privileges and supervision during their education.
