CCH Cardiopulmonary Dept. receives award

National Quality Respiratory Care Recognition
The Cardiopulmonary Department at Carson City Hospital (CCH) recently received Quality Respiratory Care Recognition (QRCR) from the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) under a national program aimed at helping patients and families make informed decisions about the quality of the respiratory care services available in hospitals. Only about 15% of hospitals in the United States have received this award.
In order to qualify for this recognition, CCH provided documentation showing that all respiratory therapists employed by the hospital to deliver bed-side respiratory care services are either legally recognized by the state as competent to provide respiratory care services or hold the Certified Respiratory Therapist or Registered Respiratory Therapist credential, that respiratory therapists are available 24 hours a day, that there is a doctor of medicine or osteopathy designated as medical director of respiratory care services, and other documentation, as well.
“Our entire Cardiopulmonary Department and all of our respiratory therapists do a fantastic job providing excellent care for our patients,” said Lori Hurst, LRT, CCH’s Cardiopulmonary Department Manager. “This designation is indicative of our focus on quality here at Carson.”
Respiratory therapists are specially trained health-care professionals who work under a physician’s orders to provide a wide range of breathing treatments and other services to people with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis, lung cancer, AIDS, and other lung or lung-related conditions. They also care for premature infants and are key members of life-saving response teams charged with handling medical emergencies.
