Fall leaf collection program outlined

The City of St. Johns asks your continued cooperation in the fall leaf collection program. The City applauds the many residents that participated in last year’s leaf collection, making the leaf collection program friendlier to the environment and safer traveling for our residents.
The key to our curb side collection is bagging leaves in compostable KRAFT paper yard waste bags and NOT raking leaves into the streets. Mulching leaves into grassy areas is another option to recycle leaves and a great way to fertilize your lawn.
Bagged leaves will be picked up daily beginning October 25, 2010 and continue until November 24, 2010. City staff has tentatively scheduled the week of November 29 thru December 3, 2010 for City crews to pick up loose leaves in the City right of way. (This week is dependent on Mother Nature. Watch the local newspaper, City web site and the City access channel for further updates.)
There are several ways for City residents to get their TEN FREE Kraft bags:

You may use the alternate drop off site at Kinley Road. This site is located just north and east of the US 127 overpass. City staff will have signs directing you to this alternate site. Kinley Road site will be open each day from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm starting October 25, 2010. This site will also have free compost on-site for City residents.

Reminder – Regular Curbside Brush pick up is suspended during leaf collection, but residents may still take their brush to the to the compost site at the DPW or Kinley road.
