College Access Network building momentum

CPSN develops name, goals and a mission statement

Clinton Post-Secondary Access Network (CPSN), is a collaborative effort consisting of leadership from K-12, Clinton County Regional Educational Services Agency (CCRESA) Career Education, Higher Education, local businesses, Clinton County Offices, Economic Development, St. Johns City Offices, Philanthropy and Community Development. Denise Palmer, CCRESA employee, serves as the CPSN Coordinator.

The purpose of the Network is to increase Post-Secondary readiness, enrollment and completion percentages in Clinton County. There are many Post-Secondary education options available after high school graduation. CPSN wants to ensure students have the awareness and resources necessary to complete the next step whether it be through college, the Military, technical or other certification, credential or training program.

The CPSN Leadership team was awarded a Planning Grant through the Michigan College Access Network (MCAN) in September, 2014. MCAN serves as the primary support organization for creating high quality, sustainable local college access networks (LCANs) across the state, helping to create approximately 40 LCANs to date.

The leadership team has been meeting on a monthly basis, reviewing data to determine the current status of Post-Secondary readiness, enrollment and completion in Clinton County. Based on the compilation of data and group collaboration, the team has worked collectively to develop a mission statement, asset map, goals for the network, and a name that is reflective of their purpose. The next step is to apply for the Implementation Grant, which would start in the fall of 2015.

The Implementation Grant will allow CPSN to develop programs and initiatives throughout Clinton County to provide assistance and resources to students in selecting a career path after high school graduation. The Implementation Phase of this initiative involves more in-depth data analysis and discussion among team members to determine the areas of highest priority in Clinton County, then developing action teams to plan and carry out those initiatives.

“CPSN is committed to making sure the students in Clinton County are equipped with the knowledge, education and training they need to be successful in whatever path they choose after high school graduation,” said Palmer.

CPSN Mission Statement:
To increase the percentage of Clinton County students who pursue and obtain a Post-Secondary credential following high school, to build a workforce equipped to compete in a global community.
