Murder-suicide reported near St. Johns

Clinton County experienced its first reported homicide for 2011 last Friday when 19-year-old Craig Linzey allegedly killed his mother before killing himself.
Nora Kay Linzey, 49, and her son were both found dead at about 10:55 p.m. Friday after police forced their way into the home at 2600 Yallup Road. In Bingham Township. According to Clinton County Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Fritz Sandberg, Linzey beat his mother to death before shooting himself.
Police found the two dead after Nora’s husband asked police to check on his wife. He came home to find the house locked and his key not in the usual spot, Sandberg said. Police found Nora Linzey in a basement bedroom and Craig Linzey in a room on the first floor.
Craig Linzey and the home on Yallup Road were familiar to the sheriff’s office, Sandberg added. In the latest incident Craig Linzey had been arrested on January 5 on a domestic assault charge involving an older sibling, according to police.

Nora was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister. She was an assistant 5th and 6th grade basketball coach at St. Joseph Catholic School and was devoted to her family and her faith . She worked as a dental hygienist and loved vacationing in and around Petoskey, Michigan.
Craig was a graduate of St. Johns High School, Class of 2009 and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Craig served a brief stint in the U.S. Air Force, loved working with wood, trout fishing, deer hunting and spending time outdoors looking at the wonders of nature.
