Heroes in the Heat

Habitat for Humanity’s St. Johns build is making hot progress this summer

You might think that the sweltering temperatures this summer would melt our volunteers and slow progress on the St. Johns building project. On the contrary. Under the direction of Roger Wells, construction committee chair, Habitat’s heroic volunteers are making great headway on the St. Johns home and are now two weeks ahead of schedule.
During May and June, general contractor Mike Feldpausch of Fowler led a crew of volunteers and framed in the home. Doug Beaufore of RSI Home Improvement and his crew and volunteers from the St. Johns Rotary Club raised the roof.
Volunteers of the Turning Point Youth Center built the porches, and siding is going up now under the direction of crew leader Mary Hoyland. Hundreds of hours of donated time has made this the most efficient and successful Habitat building project in Clinton County so far.
Future homeowner Kirsten Morence and her three children have been at the worksite and at the ReStore racking up volunteer hours and waiting in excited anticipation for the completion of their new home.
Our amazing volunteers are truly Habitat’s Heroes, facing down the ferocious heat and building a bright future for qualifying families! Here’s a rundown of who else is helping from St. Johns: First United Methodist Church, Pilgrim United Methodist Church, City of St. Johns employees and the Kiwanis Club. Also helping are John Headley of Gunnisonville United Methodist Church and Jerry Boyer of Bath United Methodist Church.
