Leonard focuses on competitiveness, public safety
State Rep. Tom Leonard today took part in a Capitol news conference unveiling an action plan of goals and objectives for the current legislative session designed to encourage a healthy economy and improve the quality of life in Michigan.
Leonard, R-DeWitt Township, is a member of the new House Committee on Michigan Competitiveness, and said making our state more attractive for business growth will benefit everybody.
“We need to take a hard look at where Michigan stands in comparison to neighboring states and Canada and see what can be done to convince more job creators to expand or move here,” Leonard said. “Bringing good jobs to Michigan is vital to a healthy economy, and increasing competitiveness will in turn improve the quality of life in our state.”
Leonard said his role on the House Judiciary Committee goes hand-in-hand with job creation, as public safety is a key benchmark for anyone considering moving to Michigan.
“The first thing a family would look into is if the streets of their neighborhoods are safe,” Leonard said. “Businesses want to make sure the tools are in place to keep their investments safe. Maintaining safe neighborhoods and communities are an important part of being competitive.”
The House GOP’s Guiding Principles document, unveiled in January 2011, became a blueprint for reform and responsible leadership during the historic 2011-2012 legislative session.
