Groundbreaking ceremony
After months of diligent effort by scores of volunteers, Habitat for Humanity will soon celebrate the completion of its 8th home in Clinton County. By the end of July, the renovated house on Wacousta Road in Maple Rapids will be the new home of Chad Anderson and his two daughters. After living in a tiny apartment, much too small for two teenagers, the family can put roots down, enjoy a little breathing room and begin building equity in their own home.

Chad, like other Habitat homeowners, fully participated in the renovation of his future home and will purchase the house with a low interest loan. Chad spent many hours contributing his required “sweat equity” on the job site and working as a volunteer at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in St. Johns.
“Chad is a hard-working Habitat partner,” said Sue Carroll, Habitat’s Director. “He really exemplifies the kind of person that deserves Habitat’s hand-up. Habitat homeowners aren’t given a house. They work hard for the privilege of buying their home with Habitat’s assistance.”
By leveraging donations, hundreds of hours of volunteer labor, the sweat equity of Habitat Homebuyers and an affordable mortgage, Habitat helps transform families’ lives. “There is a world of benefits that come with being a home owner,” said Carroll. “We help make the dream of home ownership a reality.”

Habitat’s next project is a new build on S. Lansing Street in St. Johns. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on May 30th. Future homeowners, Chad and Christina Coleman, have four children. One is only a few days old. They are looking forward to working on their Habitat house and moving into a home large enough to accommodate their growing family.
Sponsors for the newest Habitat home currently include: Pilgrim United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church and St. Joseph Catholic Church (all from St. Johns), the City of St. Johns employees, Turning Point Youth Center, St. Johns Rotary Club and St. Johns Kiwanis Club.
