Tradition continues with Kiwanis and Kids

Traditions endure and St. Johns Kiwanis members are an active example. For several years now, the club has sponsored a Christmas shopping spree for children, which includes not only a run through the store, but some extras as well.
According to co-chairs of the event, Roberta O’Connor and Mike Zigler, twenty-one youngsters took part in this year’s outing. The group descended on the aisles of K-Mart with $40.00 in hand to select items for themselves, friends and loved ones. “It’s exciting to see their enthusiasm,” Zigler, commented. “I enjoy doing this each year.”
Before shopping, the children, selected for the outing by Pauline Baert and staff at CCAS, enjoyed pizza donated by Little Caesar’s.
Ms. O’Connor expressed appreciation to Ms. Baert and the CCAS staff for assisting in the selection process. “This would be a difficult task to identify the youngsters who might enjoy this outing, but Pauline and her team provide Kiwanis with valuable support.”
At the end of the evening, O’Connor and Zigler expressed appreciation to the children’s parents who were in attendance and distributed to each family a WalMart gift certificate.
