At Middle School
Middle School students, grades 6 through 8, were introduced to the advantages of joining the “Builders Club” during recent sessions of middle school orientation.
Members of St. Johns Kiwanis Club, sponsors of the Builder Club, were in attendance during Middle School orientation periods to conduct an informational booth during the two day schedule which ran Tuesday and Wednesday, August 28 and 29.

“One of the principal objectives of Builders Club,” explained Kiwanian Jan Havlik, is to create awareness among the young people of how working together in service to school and the general community has broad benefits. Kiwanis has sponsored this group since its charter in 2008 and we have seen the qualities of leadership and moral character blossom in these kids.”
Kiwanians participating in manning the information booth during the three day schedule are Laura Mullaney, Tyler Barlage and Marilyn Thelen. Ms Mullaney and Barlage join non-Kiwanian advisors Liz Pearson and Jo Welles. Ms Pearson is a parental advisor and Ms Welles is a teacher advisor.
For the students interested in joining the Builders Club, adult consent is required and special forms will be given to the students for completion by parents or authorized guardian.
“As with the sponsoring Kiwanis Club, the middle school group has already conducted a number of school related or community projects,” commented Ms Havlik. “We hope to nurture this spirit among new members each year to encourage a sense of loyalty, not just to the school, but to the individual’s community and nation.”
