Leonard announces re-election candidacy

93rd District State Representative
State Representative Tom Leonard of DeWitt has announced his re-election campaign to serve the citizens of the 93rd District in the Michigan House of Representatives for a second term. The 93rd district includes all of Clinton County, 12 townships in Gratiot County, including the city of Ithaca. Representative Leonard was elected to his first term in 2012.
“It has been an honor to serve the hardworking families of Clinton and Gratiot counties and I’m proud to announce my candidacy for a second term” said Leonard.
As a former prosecutor, Representative Leonard has made public safety a top priority in his first term. He introduced legislation to provide for stricter penalties against those that prey on the elderly and mentally handicapped as well as legislation to protect crime victims that are owed restitution, both of which are now law.
“Tom has been a champion for crime victims over the past two years, especially our state’s most vulnerable,” said Clinton County Undersheriff, Larry Jerue.
Leonard has also focused on educational opportunities for the state’s youth, by co-sponsoring legislation to increase vocational training opportunities for those who choose to seek skilled trade careers, such as welding and agricultural sciences.
“Tom has impressed me and many others in the community with his commitment to accountability and results.” said Gratiot County Farmer, John Crumbaugh. “He has made himself available to help solve problems and he follows through on his word. He is a strong advocate for small businesses, and has a 100% voting record with the Michigan Farm Bureau.”

Leonard has made a name for himself over the past two years by striving to remain accountable to the citizens of the 93rd District. Since taking office in January 2013, Leonard has not missed a single vote in the House of Representatives. He also hosts two coffee hours each month in the community and has walked to hundreds of homes throughout his term to give legislative updates.
“Accountability to the citizens of Clinton and Gratiot counties remains my top priority,” said Leonard. “Michigan is on the comeback trail but good is never good enough when it comes to our great state. I will continue to work to ensure Michigan’s best days are ahead.”
