Part-Time Legislature
Our wise Founding Fathers established a government based on the premise of “citizen government”.
Our Founding Fathers never intended citizens of our great nation being ruled by elite, full time, career politicians who are managed by party bosses or special interest money.
They envisioned ordinary citizens, who worked the majority of the year/ career and lived with their fellow citizen before giving back to their community through legislative service.
Michigan is one of a few states with a full time legislature. Over the years, Lansing legislators have only scheduled 60 to 70 sessions per year. The legislators have hunting, Christmas,Spring/ Easter and summer/campaigning recess. Basically, we now have a part-time legislature; we just pay them full time.
Currently, there is a petition circulating to change our legislature process to part-time. Please sign the petition; I did.
Reforming Michigan to a part-time legislature will be one small step to a limited constitutional government and returning governance to citizens.
