Improved street condition reduces Clinton Transit repair costs
Clinton Area Transit System (the Blue Bus) needs good roads and streets to operate efficiently. There is a higher cost for repair and maintenance with poor streets and roads. As public transportation, we have no choice but to fix our buses and pay these higher costs.
The Blue Bus services all of Clinton County, so it is difficult to determine the exact cost of maintenance due solely to the poor streets in the City of St. Johns. In the last fiscal year, the average cost of maintenance to our fleet was $1,420 per vehicle without cost for maintenance staff labor.
I am pleased that the City of St. Johns is trying to repair their streets and roads. Investment in their streets and roads will not only help the Blue Bus, but also the homeowners and businesses in St. Johns. Good transportation and good roads can only encourage growth in our community. I encourage voters to support the St. Johns Street millage on the November 5th ballot.
Sincerely,
Dawn Benson, General Manager
