The Cambells celebrate, and Opsommer reflects

George and Kathleen Campbell December 21, 1972-2013

My husband has made me laugh. Whiped my tears. Hugged me tight. Watched me succeed. Seen me fail. Cheered me on. Kept me strong.
My husband is a promise from God that I will have a friend forever.
Happy 40th Wedding Anniversary George, I love you.

Opsommer reflects on six years in office
As my six years as your State Representative comes to an end, I would like to take this moment to say THANK YOU to the constituents of the 93rd District. It has been an honor to serve in Lansing on your behalf.
I could not do this job without the involvement of the people I represent. It has been a privilege to hear your ideas and concerns and work on solutions in partnership with you. Being an effective legislator involves listening to constituents, translating these concerns into good public policy and gaining support to implement them.
During my time in office I had the opportunity to serve under two Governors, one Democratic and the other Republican. I also served in both the minority and majority parties, and was able to see all of the unique perspectives that can come from trying to shape public policy at the state level. And while our state, and indeed our nation, continues to be strongly divided on the best way to go forward, I would also ask people to try to minimize those differences as much as possible.
Be willing to quickly turn the channel on your TV. Drown out the shrill voices that attempt to put Michigan into a perpetual state of conflict. This can be difficult, as change and conflict often go hand in hand. But while change can be hard, after six years in office I can also tell you that we have no choice but to continue to do things differently so that we can better position our state to succeed and grow in the 21st century.
That is not to say that the decisions our policy makers will enter into will be uncontroversial or easy. 2013 is already shaping up to be another challenging year, in many ways due to the fact that government hasn’t made as many of the hard decisions it has needed to over the past several decades. But the time to make those decisions is here, and while many of the votes I have taken have been controversial they have also been made easier by the people of the 93rd District who have contacted me with thoughtful comments and words of guidance that helped me in making the decisions I felt best for both the district and our state.
I encourage all of us to continue the dialog with each other so that our collective wisdom can guide us in the right direction through difficult times. I sincerely thank everyone who cared enough about our state to contact my office, and leave hoping our mutual efforts have all left Michigan better than from where we started.
