Wednesday January 21
The Friends of the Maple River (FOMR) will hold it’s January Bi-Monthly meeting at 7:00 PM, on Wednesday January 21st, in the Clinton County Courthouse Commissioners Room in downtown St Johns. The courthouse is located just south of the intersection of Highway M-21 [State Street] and Clinton Avenue in downtown St Johns) There is a large parking lot on the south side of the courthouse.
Mr. Gary Haynes, a member of MGROW (Middle Grand River Organization of Watersheds) will discuss the potential for a quiet waters canoeing and kayaking mini expedition on the Maple River, similar to that held on the Grand River every 10 years. The proposed adjunct mini expedition on the Maple River would be a part of the larger Grand River expedition. Persons interested in quiet waters canoeing and kayaking are invited to attend the FOMR meeting.
As part of it’s business meeting, there will be a planning and brainstorming discussion involving projects and calendar of events to be scheduled during 2015. These will include participation in the MSU Quiet Waters Symposium, the schedule for riverbank and access site clean-up along the Maple River, log jam removal to permit unobstructed boating activity on the river, and FOMR assistance in the implementation of the Upper Maple River Management Plan.
There will also be a discussion of the need for volunteers to run for vacant Officer and Board members positions in the upcoming May election of officers. Because of attrition, FOMR is seeking persons interested in future of the Maple River and its watershed and in the mission of the FOMR. to consider becoming a part of this citizen conservation organization and running for office.
