Lamplighter Festival to be held in Maple Rapids

Friday, Aug. 27
The festival kicks off on Friday, Aug. 27 with a potluck dinner and opening ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on the tennis court. At dark there will be the Fireman’s Light Parade.
Saturday, Aug. 28
Historical display will be open in the library at 9 a.m.; a craft show will open near the park and ball fields. Chain saw sculptures will be on exhibit next to the fire hall.
At 11 a.m. the Lamplighter Parade begins. From noon to 4 p.m. there will be a quilt show in the Congregational Christian Church. The Methodist Church will serve a luncheon from noon to 3 p.m. The Baptist Church will be presenting skits during the afternoon. Entertainment in the park will begin at 12:30 p.m. with the special opening and singing.
Cloggers will take the stage from 1-1:30 p.m. Matt Bowen will be singing from 1:30-2 p.m. and he’ll be back again from 4-4:30 p.m.
The Great Lakes Timber Show, a very special addition to this year’s festival, will be presented from 2-2:30 p.m. with a second performance planned for 4:30-5 p.m.
Tim Salisbury will present his comedy and juggling act from 2:30-3:15 p.m. Singers will take the microphone from 3:15-4 p.m. At 5 p.m. it will be time for the cake auction.
A clown will be wandering around Maple Rapids throughout the day.
Kids water ball competition will follow. Preregistration is required for the kids competition. The cost is $5 per person in two-person teams. There will be two age groups — 12-14 and 15-17.
The hospitality tent will be open from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the tennis courts. Left Hand Giants will provide live music. Identification will be required for everyone. Canned beer, wine coolers and water will be available. The teen dance will be from 8-11 p.m. at Dewey’s parking lot. Admission is $4. The dance will be moved to the Maple Rapids Community Center in the event of rain.
Sunday, Aug. 29
Sunday, Aug. 29 will begin with a community church service in the park at 9 a.m. The historical display will again be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The kid’s parade begins at 11 a.m. through downtown Gospel singing is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. in the park. The lawn mower races will begin at 2 p.m. at the Maple Rapids Mower Speedway.
A carnival will be set up at the ball fields all three days of the festival. The food vendors will be available by the park throughout the festival as well. There will be demonstrations in the park on tying flies throughout the day as well. Fireman’s Water Ball competition is scheduled for 3 p.m.
