Wednesday July 18, 2012
The Friends of The Maple River (FOMR) extends an invitation to it’s members and to those interested in the Maple River and it’s watershed to attend an old fashioned potluck picnic on Wednesday July 18th at the Pavilion in the Maple Rapids village Park that is located at the corner of Franklin and Main Streets in Maple Rapids. The picnic will start at 6:00 PM. We invite folks to join in the fun of a potluck picnic. We ask everyone to bring a dish to pass. The FOMR will provide hotdogs, brats, and hamburgers, and will provide the buns and condiments. You should also bring your own table service and non-alcoholic drinks. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted in the Maple Rapids Village Park.
There will be some short announcements and an update on the invasive species project that the FOMR is undertaking in cooperation with the Michigan DNR on the Maple River State Game Area. There will also be an update on the Watershed Management Plan implimentation Grant and what actions are being planned with the grant funds that were obtained by the Clinton Conservation District.
The picnic meal and program should be completed by 7:00 PM. It is planned that the group will then take a short (one hour) float trip on the Maple River. It is planned to stage vehicles and canoes and kayaks so that the entire group can travel together to the launch site. We anticipate that every one will be on their way home by 9:00PM. If you would like to join the group for the float trip, but do not have a canoe or kayak, please contact Former President Mr. Jon Morrison at 989-224-1106. He will make the necessary arrangements.
