FOMR holds meeting

The Friends of the Maple River (FOMR) will hold their bi-monthly meeting on Wednesday, March 20th at the Ovid Township Hall in Ovid. ( The Township Hall is located approximately 1/4 mile east of Hollister road on the south side of Highway M-21). The meeting will start at 7:00 PM.
The featured guest speaker for the evening will be Dr. Jo A. Latimore Aquatic Ecologist from the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at Michigan State University. Dr. Latimore is an outreach specialist with with extensive experience working with watershed groups around Michigan. She will lead a discussion focused on efforts to enhance the work and programs of the Friends of the Maple River.
We encourage anyone who is interested in the Maple River and it’s watershed to attend this meeting. We ask that you take some time to think of activities and projects you believe the Friends of the Maple River should be focusing on to benefit the people and the varied resources of the Maple River watershed and River. Jon Morrison, the organizations President, wants input and a meaningful discussion to help the organization plan for the future.
A business meeting will follow Dr. Latimores presentation and group discussion. The business session will include nominations of individuals interested in positions to serve as FOMR officers or Board members. The election of officers and Board members will be held at the organizations May meeting.
The FOMR has scheduled it’s Annual Maple River Clean-up for Saturday April 6th. In case of bad weather on the 6th, an alternate date for the river clean-up will be on Saturday April 13th. Volunteers are needed to help on this project. For information about the project or to volunteer, please call Mr. Jack Nutter at 989-862-5541.
The FOMR will be continuing its efforts to monitor and catalog invasive plant species in the Maple River State Game Area. If you are interested in helping in this monitoring program, you can call Mr. Jon Morrison at 989-224-1106 for information and program details.
The FOMR extends their best wishes to Mr. Gary Fritz who is retiring as the Executive Director of the Clinton Conservation District. Mr. Fritz will be moving to North Carolina to pursue his retirement dream. It has been an honor to work with Gary and our organization has benefited greatly from his insights and input.
