Meetings for the 2011 St. Johns Mint Festival are ready to get underway, but several volunteers are still needed to chair or co-chair an event.
Being a chair or co-chair involves attending general festival meetings that are held on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 5:30 pm, organizing a specific event, running that event during the festival weekend and getting the necessary volunteers to help at that event. Other than the last one or two meetings, the monthly meetings usually last one hour. The areas the committee needs help with are:
Kids World is all about fun and games all hours of the festival for children. The Kids World Committee decorates and sets up the Kids World area, secures and supervises volunteers that man the games all weekend long and wraps up the event with clean up of their area. Because this event is extremely busy all weekend, we are looking for at least 3 people to co-chair this event (a great project for a family or a group of friends).
The Environment Committee is responsible for setting up and tearing down many areas on the festival grounds (canopies, trash barrels, snow fencing or caution tape where needed, etc). The committee also maintains trash control throughout the weekend by working with the cities summer help.
The Mint Office is responsible to making PA announcements throughout the weekend, assisting with directions and information about the festival. The Motorcycle Show is looking for a co-chair to help with getting volunteers, being their throughout the weekend and getting interest from the motorcycle community.
The Pudding Eating Contest is a very short term event (usually 2-3 hours). The committee sets up the eating contest area, registers the participants and conducts the contest.
The Souvenir Chair and Co-Chair are responsible for getting all the Mint Festival souvenirs to the festival grounds, setting up 2 booths, getting all the volunteers needed, keeping the booths stocked throughout the weekend and getting everything back to the Chamber after the festival.
If you would be interested in learning more about any of these positions, please contact general chair of the festival Brenda Terpening at 989-224-7248. The first meeting of the General Planning Committee is Tuesday, January 25 and they hope to have a full committee by then.
