Paine-Gillam-Scott Museum needs your help

Volunteers have logged countless hours
Clinton County has a rich and diverse history that needs to be preserved for generations to come. 2013 marks this Museum’s 35th year as a repository for artifacts that portray life of over one hundred years ago. The items and information amassed at PGS represent a significant legacy. The need to reveal the past to young people in our community is pivotal. Without historical preservation and education, we have no roots to draw from to understand our future.
Volunteers have logged countless hours restoring, repairing and maintaining the House Museum, General Store, and Carriage House. They have collected thousands of artifacts that embody Clinton County’s past to ensure that the stories they tell are shared with future generations. The Clinton County Historical Society has operated entirely on donations and volunteers and is truly thankful for the donors who have made it so.

Last year, new storm windows were installed in the upstairs windows of the Complex’s main house. The new storms provide improved insulation. Staff hopes to replace the lower level storm windows in 2013. Project “Keep The Roof Over Our Heads” is very serious in nature: the roof over the back rooms of the house must be replaced. Volunteers painted the General Store, and an enormous spruce tree was removed from the front of the house, where it had become overgrown. A flag pole has been installed where the tree once stood.
The museum’s 1819 sampler was conserved this past year, and a wonderful program followed its return to the museum. Many school groups toured the grounds, and had much fun while learning about Clinton County history. A large group enjoyed docent training last spring, and more volunteers have also been trained to work with Past Perfect Museum soft-ware. They have spent hundreds of hours to date entering data.
As PGS collections grow, so does the need to care for and exhibit the treasures of the county’s past and to prepare for its history to come. We invite you to help us meet these challenges by financially supporting Paine-Gillam-Scott Museum Complex. http://www.pgsmuseum.com
