Laura Schmidt says, “That photo is the house on Lansing Street, located next to the big brick apartment building at 306 S. Lansing. I lived in that apartment building in the late 60’s.”
Lynne Gregory addds, “This house is located on the NW corner of Lansing and Baldwin. Pre-World War II it was started, I’ve forgotten the story as to why, about the time of the war, only the basement was completed. It was roofed over and lived in until well after the war was over. The house was finally built over that basement. It is next to the original Emmons house, seen in the background.
The house 310 S. Lansing St. The current owner is listed as Bruce Durbin.
Barry recalls: “In the 50s/60s it was owned by Jake and Beulah Wabeke, owners of the St. Johns Egg Station, and former owners of the White House Restaurant formerly located on the corner of Scott Rd. and State St. This house has/had a bomb shelter which indicates it was probably built in the ’50s.”
