Amy (Brown) Huff writes:
If anyone knows that brick house featured on this weeks mystery spot, it’s me and my sisters. It’s “the house next door”.
Let me explain: we grew up on the corner of Wight and McConnell street in a large two-story house. From my sisters’ bedroom window we could see this particular home. To me, it looked like a doll house, except much bigger, of course.
I often looked out over those distinctive round windows that flank the entryway of that brick home and wished I could spend some time looking at it from the inside.
Mrs. Benson (we called her “Grandma” Benson) lived there when I was a little girl. She was a favorite of ours and often shared her flowers from her flowerbed so we could present our mother with a bouquet for Mother’s Day or birthdays.
Later it was rented out for awhile and then Mr. and Mrs. Ken Munger lived there. The first time my boyfriend (eventually my husband) came to see me, he went to that house by mistake. Mrs. Munger opened the door right up because she thought he was delivering the pizza they had ordered!
I found out later that my father once mentioned that if it was ever up for sale, he hoped they told him first. Lo and behold, when the time came to sell, my dad jumped at the offer and the house now belongs to them.
What a moving day! They finally occupied the home I always secretly adored, and best of all–no moving trucks needed!
Thanks for the beautiful picture of 207 E. McConnell Street, home to William and Charlene Brown.
