Vineta Silm Hilt says she reads the Indy online every week from Georgia. This week she wrote, “I believe the photo is of a grave marker at St Peter Lutheran Church on Church road in Riley. I believe it was put there by Erv Marten as a marker for his wife Verna because he said she liked the shape of the stone.”
Barry claims that it is a memorial to the Grand Army of the Republic and is placed on the Courthouse lawn on the east side.
Now we just have to get out there to St. Peter Church to get a look at that other stone.
