Mackinac Island 1944 and today
As the summer winds down, we take a look back at Mackinac Island as it was during WWII and again as it was last Tuesday. This video was viewed in theaters across the nation in 1944 as a short subject presented before the main feature.
Now we can compare Mackinac yesterday and today.
Perhaps Arch Rock has undergone the most changes. If you will observe the tourists climbing on top of the arch, you will understand why so much superstructure has been added to protect both the tourists and the Arch itself.
The Biddle House still stands in the same location on Market Street, and the State of Michigan has given the old girl a facelift and a new coat of paint.
As for the rest of these landmarks, an aging youth from 1944 would still feel right at home on the Island.
