Maryann S. Fero

Maryann S. Fero, died March 30, 2011. Born January 28, 1935 in White Haven, Pennsylvania the daughter of Anthony and Anna (Decowski) Suchowesky. She retired in 1997 from C.A.C.S. Head Start in Lansing after 22 years of service working as a teacher’s assistant and bus driver. Maryann enjoyed quilting, bird watching, perennial gardens and the outdoors. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul Store. On September 4, 1954, she married Richard D. Fero and he preceded her in death March 29, 2002.
Maryann is survived by her son, Richard Fero, Jr. of St. Johns, MI, four daughters, Darlene Morgan, Kathy (Curt) Pettigrew, Annette Grubaugh and Chris (Dan) Cousineau, all of St. Johns, five grandchildren, Nathan Grubaugh, JoAnn Morgan, Andrew Pettigrew, Alex and Amber Cousineau. Maryann also has three sisters, Frances (Fred) Stehlik and Ann (Ron) Drumheller of Ovid and Patricia Rewerts of St. Johns, three brothers, Stanley (Janice) Suchowesky of Lake, MI, and John Suchowesky of Harrison. In addition to her parents and her husband, Maryann was preceded in death by one sister, Stella Suchowesky and one brother William Suchowesky.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 2, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with burial following at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Fr. Eoin Murphy presiding. The family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. and 6-8p.m. Friday, at The Osgood Funeral Home with a Vigil Service being prayed at 7 p.m.

Betty Jane Miller
Betty Jane Miller, 87, passed away on March 30, 2011. Betty was born on September 18, 1923 in Ionia Michigan, the daughter of Lewis and Susan (Soule) Selleck. Betty married Gordon Miller in Ionia on June 27, 1942 and he preceded her in death on July 31, 1997. Betty was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fowler, as well as a member of their Lady’s Aid Society. Betty Jane was the last survivor of 13 children.
Betty is survived by her sons, Ronald (Sharon) Miller, David (Ardith) Miller, Stephen (Roberta) Miller, grandchildren, Lisa (David) Warnke, Teresa (Mike) Kress, Sherry (Ed) Barrett, David Jr. (Bobbie Jo) Miller, Jeff (Marlena) Miller, Brian (Elizabeth) Miller, Scott (Amie) Miller, Jennifer (Scott) Katich, Melissa Long, 20 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, as well as many nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, Betty was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 1, 2011 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at East Plains Cemetery, with Pastor Paul Clark officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9p.m., Thursday at The Goerge Chapel of The Osgood Funeral Homes, in Fowler. Contributions may be made in Betty’s name to St. Paul Lutheran Church. The family was served by The Osgood Funeral Homes.


Carl “Kenny” Ryan

Carl “Kenny” Ryan, died March 27, 2011, at the age of 82. Born in Hubbardston, Michigan on December 28, 1928, the son of Carl Kenneth and Castella (Meservey) Ryan. He retired from Federal Mogul as a Grinder in 1989. On November 12, 1949, he married Mary Kay Johnson and she preceded him in death on November 23, 2003.
Kenny is survived by his daughters, Patricia (Steve) Eckert of Lakeview, Cheryl Boettger of St. Johns, sons, Ron (Amy) Ryan of Maple Rapids, Randall (Carol) Ryan of Maple Rapids, sisters, Nellie Ryan, Margaret (Ed) Swanchara, eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, and his faithful dog Jack. Kenny was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kay Ryan, brother, John Ryan, and two sons, Roger and Richard Ryan.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 31, 2011 at the Abbott Chapel of The Osgood Funeral Homes, Maple Rapids. Burial will follow at Payne Cemetery with Pastor David Hudgens officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.

Patricia L. Smith
Patricia L. Smith passed away on March 25, 2011, at the age of 81 in St. Johns, Michigan. Patricia was born in St. Johns on June 20, 1929, the daughter of Claude and Martha (Workman) Phelps. She was a member at the First Congregational Church in St. Johns, a homemaker and loved her family. She married Donald K. Smith on July 2, 1947 in St. Johns and he preceded her in death on October 15, 2000.
Patricia is survived by her daughters, Kathy Bailey and Trudy Viers; grandchildren, Jason Viers, Andy (Michelle) Bailey and Kori (Charles) Bell; great grandchildren, Chloe, Madison and Andria Bailey. Also surviving Patricia are her sister, Bette Woodworth and brothers Robert (Bea) Phelps and R.G. (Grace) Phelps. Along with her husband, Patricia was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard, John and Claude Jr. Phelps, and son in law, Brent E. Bailey.
As per her wishes there will not be any services at this time but she will be buried at Mt. Rest Cemetery at a later date. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorial contributions to Great Lakes Hospice or the American Cancer Society. The family is being served by the Osgood Funeral Homes.


Lawrence E. Walter Jr.
Lawrence E. “Toad” Walter Jr. 68, of Ovid, retired Federal Mogul employee, farmer, former E & R Industrial Sales (Lansing) and Geisler Co. (Redford) industrial salesman, died Wednesday March 23, 2011.
Memorial services 11 a.m. Saturday April 2, 2011 at Shepardsville United Methodist Church, Ovid.

Jack L. Schineman III
Jack L. Schineman III died Friday, March 18, 2011 at the age of 29. He was born November 16, 1981 in Lansing, Michigan the son of Jack L. Schineman II and Sharon Brace. He was a graduate of St. Johns High School, Class of 2000 and attended Michigan Technological University. Jack loved reading and rock climbing.
Surviving is his mother, Sharon (Lawrence Jr.) Haeck of Elsie; father, Jack Schineman II (Sue Spagnuolo) of St. Johns; brother, Daniel of Elsie; two sisters, Katie Schineman of Elsie and Claire Schineman of St. Johns; step-sister, Sarah Haeck and step-brother, Lawrence Haeck both of Elsie; grandparents, Margaret Schineman of Lansing and Lewis and Patricia Brace of St. Johns and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A memorial mass will be held 11:30 AM Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church 109 Linden, St. Johns with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends 2-4 and 6-8 PM Monday, with a vigil service at 7:30 PM at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns. Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross Mid-Michigan Chapter 1800 E. Grand River Ave. Lansing, MI 48912.


Gale H. Mead
Gale H. Mead arrived on February 1, 1937, youngest son of Horace and Hazel Mead of Ovid, MI and departed to heaven on this day of March 18, 2011. He was currently of Clearwater, FL and DeWitt, MI. Gale retired from Fisher Body in 1997 as a pipe fitter/purchasing expediter. For many years, Gale enjoyed bowling, deer hunting, and golfing. Subsequent to retirement he liked to play cards and do well on a shuffleboard team. He had fond memories of not only family vacations but also trips from his dream list – Alaska, Australia, and a cruise going through the Panama Canal. Beginning in 2004, Gale was very happy to winter in Florida.
Gale is survived by his wife, Lee, and three wonderful children with their three – Michael (Lisa) of Elsie, MI with son Terry; Charlene (Emerson) Hyde of Mason, MI with daughter Megan; and Patrick (Angie) of Angola, IN with daughter Makayla. Other survivors include the mother of his children, Donna Allen, a stepdaughter, Kathleen Harris, brother Donald (Alberta) Mead, extended Perry family loved ones who all called him grandpa, and several nephews and nieces, especially Ellen Sue. Gale was predeceased by his parents, one brother, and four sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 28, 2011 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 W. Washtenaw Street, Lansing, MI. Visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, March 27th at the funeral home. Should you wish to donate in his memory, an animal related organization would be a preference, e.g. National Wildlife Federation.
