Vivian S. Leavitt
Vivian S. Leavitt died Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at the age of 90. She was born January 21, 1921 in St. Louis, Michigan the daughter of Louis and Alta (Baker) Hunt. She enjoyed baking, sewing and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving is a daughter Beverly Leavitt of Laingsburg; one son, Roger (Christine) Leavitt of St. Johns; three grandchildren, Julie (John) Welch of Lansing, Michael Leavitt of St. Johns and Patrick (Aleisha) Leavitt of Perrinton; six great grandchildren, Fisher and Carson Welch, Blake and Ryan Leavitt, Olivia and Natalie Leavitt and one sister, Veva McGeorge of Hastings. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry in 2000.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Pastor Tom J. Wilson officiating. Interment will be 2:30 PM at Fairfield Cemetery, Shiawassee County. The family will receive relatives and friends 5:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Charles W. Horman
Charles W. Horman of rural Dewitt, age 77 died Thursday evening at Hazel Findlay County Manor. Charles was born on Dec. 9, 1933 in Clinton County, MI the son of William and Elsie (Sehlke) Horman. He graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School, was a veteran of the U.S. Army and on Jan. 10, 1954 he married Juanita Hoyt in rural St. Johns. Charles was a farmer and had retired from John Henry Co in Lansing. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Fowler V.F.W. enjoyed carpentry work, fishing, hunting, playing cards and raising apples and making cider.
He is survived by his wife Juanita, son Bill (Cindy) Horman of St. Johns, daughters Debbie (Steve) Pytlowanyj of St. Johns and Rita (Jim) Jenks of Clark Lake, MI; Grandchildren, Jacob, Jennifer, Stacey (Pete) Kurncz, and Erica (Joel) Edwards, Krysta Pytlowanyj, Nathan (Heather) Pytlowanyj and Steve (Anne) Pytlowanyj and Taleitha Pytlowanyj. 5 great grandchildren and 2 sisters, Ethel Flegler and Lorina Sillman.
Funeral services will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 8990 Church Rd., St. Johns on Monday, Aug. 1, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Jeffrey Heimsoth officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Sunday, July 31, 2011, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Memorials may be given to St. Peter Lutheran Church, March of Dimes or Fowler V.F.W.
Doris M. Scott
Doris M. Scott died Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at the age of 76. She was born August 19, 1934 in St. Johns the daughter of Anthony and Clara (Henning) Wieber and lived in the St. Johns area all her life. Doris was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Ladies Altar Society. She owned and operated Scott’s Income Tax Service. Doris married Harry Scott June 6, 1959 and he survives her.
Also surviving is one daughter, Janine (Jack) Larsen of Ovid; one son, Kevin (Janene) Scott of St. Johns; three grandchildren, Daniel and Emily Scott, and Trisha (Ryan) Wiseman and two great grandchildren; two sisters, Yvonne (Robert) Cornell of Midland and Joanne (Arthur) Post of St. Johns. Doris was preceded in death by three brothers, infant brother Virgil and Bernard Wieber and Arnold Wieber.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Monday August 1, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church 109 Linden Ave. St. Johns with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy as Celebrant. The Rite of Committal will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns. The family will receive relatives and friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday and 2-8 p.m. Sunday with a scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns. (989) 224-4422.
