Romana B. Medina

Romana B. Medina passed away, January 23, 2012 at the age of 88. Born August 9, 1923, in Pearsal, Texas. The daughter of Gregorio and Luisa (Reyes) Barajas. Romana married Natividad Medina Sr. on November 15, 1945, in St. Johns. Natividad preceded her in death on November 8, 1993.
Romana is survived by her son, Cesar (Judy) Medina of St. Johns, two daughters, Alicia (Steven) Hunt of Portland, MI, Berta Medina of St. Johns, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, three sisters, Elida Saldivar, Adelfia Rudeas, Elvira Gonzales, one brother, Jose Barajas as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Natividad, Jr., two brothers, one sister, two grandchildren and one great grandson.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 28, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns, with Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive family and friends, Friday, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m., at The Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church. The family was served by The Osgood Funeral Homes.


Leroy W. Albrecht
Leroy W. Albrecht, age 86, of St. Johns, Michigan Died Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Laurels of Fulton, Gratiot County, Michigan.
There will be no services.
Leroy was born in Roseville, Michigan on October 24, 1925, the son of Frederick and Ida (Dargel) Albrecht. He was the husband of Lorraine R. Albrecht. He was a teacher.
He is survived by and his wife and children.

Edith D. Carmody

Edith D. Carmody St. Johns Age 91, passed away January 22, 2012. She was born October 30, 1920, in Burkburnett, TX, the daughter of Clarence and Jewell Wickham. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her life revolved around caring for her family.
Edith is survived by her children, Shirly (Keith) Eldred, Cynthia (Robert) Hendler, Beverly (John) Gross, Alicia (August) Vorndran, Gail Smith, Daniel (Sharon) Carmody and Kevin (Debbie) Carmody; 21 grandchildren; and many, many great- and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Aloysius “Al”; daughter, Teresa Carmody-Klanecky; and brother, Clifford Wickham.
The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2012, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with the Rev. Randall W. Rucker of St. Johns Church of the Nazarene officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent Home for Children.


Stanley Joseph Fox

Stanley Joseph Fox, 87, of Folwer, passed away January 22, 2012 at Sparrow St. Lawrence Hospice Center, after a 4 month fight with cancer. Stanley was born January 20, 1925 in Pewamo, Michigan. He was the son of Joseph and Ida (Spitzley) Fox. He graduated from Pewamo High School in 1943. After his graduation he entered military service with the Marines. He was stationed in San Diego, California and several posts in the South Pacific, including Hawaii.
On June 29, 1948, he married Theresa E. Koenigsknecht in Fowler, MI. Stanley worked for General Motors subsidiary for a time, then he went into dairy farming. He farmed for many years until his retirement in 1981. After retirement he and Theresa moved into town and Stanley took up woodworking. He became very good at making furniture and small decorative pieces which he generously gave to his family. He also enjoyed attending Fowler High School football and basketball games and doted on all of his grandchildren.
Stanley is survived by his wife Theresa, his daughters, Ruth Ann (Gordon) Thelen, Janet Dorn, Donna (Alan) Yoder, Margaret Fox (Dave Kenyon), his sons, Steven (Lindsay) Fox, John Fox (Robert Miller), his brothers, Carl (Carol) Fox, Sylester (Virginia) Fox, Richard (Cheryl) Fox, Ambrose (Cathy) Fox, Mark Fox, his sister Delores (Roy) Kramer, his 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 2 step-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and wife, William and Jarene Fox, his sister, Elizabeth and husband Herman Schnieder, son-in-law, Richard Dorn and brother-in-law, Donald Maidlow.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 27, 2012 at Most Holy Trinity Church, with Fr. Dennis Howard presiding. Burial will follow at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. The family will receive friends, 7 – 9 p.m., Wednesday, and 2 – 4p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m., Thursday at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes in Fowler. Rosaries will be prayed at 8 p.m. on Wednesday and 3 p.m. on Thursday. Memorial donations may be made to Sparrow St. Lawrence Hospice Center.

Esther E. Chaffee
Esther E. Chaffee, age 85, of Ovid, Michigan died Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at Bortz Healthcare in Rose City, Michigan.
A Memorial Service will be held at United Church of Ovid on February 11, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. Burial has taken place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Ovid, Michigan.
Esther was born in St. Johns, Michigan on August 9, 1926, the daughter of Earl and Clara (Stevens) Larkins. She graduated from Okemos High School with the class of 1944. On March 4, 1950 Esther married Robert J. Chaffee in Lansing, Michigan. Robert predeceased her on September 4, 2004.
Esther was a farmer’s wife and loved being on the farm raising registered Angus cattle. She loved and enjoyed her children and grandchildren and was a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program. She resided most of her life in Ovid, Michigan.
She is survived by 3 daughters; Deborah and Steven Leonard of Rose City, MI, Jo Ellen and Gregory Crips of Grandville, MI, Maryann Minarik of St. Johns, MI, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, daughter, Robbin, sister, Onalee, brother, Gaylord and son in law, Michael Minarik.
The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, Michigan.


Bernice “Bunny” M. James
Bernice “Bunny” M. James passed away, Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at the age of 61. She was born on February 6, 1950, the daughter of Don Braman and Myrtle Elwood. Bunny enjoyed going to garage sales and attending craft shows and shopping. She also loved attending 4H Fairs.
Bunny is survived by her daughters, Laura (Brad) May, Kelly James, Melissa James, son, Jason James, grandchildren, Skylar James, Andy May, Jayden Luke, brothers, Dee (Jennifer) Braman, David (Karen) Braman and her special buddy, Thelma Elwood. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick Howorth and Myrtle Elwood, and brother, Ano Elwood. The family would like to extend a special thank you to, Heartland Hospice, Candy Bush, Shelby Bush, Brian Engels, Kara Bush, John Bush and Brandon Bush.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 21, 2012, with Pastor Tim Dickerson officiating, at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes in Ovid. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice or Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
