Ann Marie Slamka
Ann Marie Slamka died peacefully at home, Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at the age of 77. She was born September 30, 1934 in Westphalia Township, Clinton County, Michigan the daughter of Tony and Clara (Halfmann) Wieber. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a former member of the St. Rita Guild, was a volunteer for the St. Vincent DePaul Store, worked for GTE as a telephone operator and retired from the 65th District Court. Ann Marie enjoyed playing cards, fishing, crocheting, polka dancing and working the K of C Fish Fries with her husband. On November 7, 1953 she married Tony Slamka, and he survives her.
Also surviving is one daughter, Lori (Steve) Dupuis; four sons, Chris, Gary (Bernadette), Eric (Cheryl), Kurt (Laurie) all of St. Johns; fourteen grandchildren and one great granddaughter, Ava Diffin; four sisters, Edna (Mark) Eaton, Eunice (Dennis) LaBar and Donna Kus all of St. Johns, Kathleen Endres of Ionia; twin brothers, Elvin (Linda) Wieber of Grand Ledge and Melvin (Julia) Wieber of Perrinton. She was preceded in death by a son Tommy; one sister, Geraldine Sipka and three brothers Lloyd, Herbert and Tony Wieber.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12:30 PM Friday, February 10, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church 109 Linden St. Johns with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy as Celebrant. Private interment will follow. The family will receive relatives and friends 2-4 and 6-8 PM Thursday at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home St. Johns. A Rosary will be prayed at 8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic School 201 E. Cass St. Johns, MI 48879 or St. Vincent DePaul 1009 S. Ladessa P. Reynolds
Ladessa P. Reynolds died Sunday, February 5, 2012 at the age of 78. She was born September 29, 1933 the daughter of Joseph and Dora (Placeway) Mevis. She enjoyed reading and crocheting and attended Faith Fellowship Church. On July 7, 1951 she married Darold C. “Curly” Reynolds and he preceded her in death in 2006. She was also predeceased by one sister and one brother.
Surviving are three daughters, Kathleen (Bud) Blackmer, Robin (Roger) Mygrants all of St. Johns and Julie (Gary) Crandell of Lansing; four grandchildren, Shawn Blackmer (Brent Crowell), Shannon (Aaron) Mitchell, Michelle Clark Miller, and Daniel (Nicole) Mygrants and 15 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Pastor John Jakus and Pastor Birt Cooper officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding, Michigan. The family will receive relatives and friends 2-4 and 6-8 PM Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.


Thelma F. Harden
Thelma F. Harden, age 89, of Elsie, MI went to be with her Lord on February 3rd, 2012 at her daughter Brenda’s home, with her family by her side.
Funeral Services will be held at Duplain Church of Christ St. Johns, MI on Tuesday, February 7th at 11:00 A.M., Mr. Chuck Emmert and Mr. Phil Beavers will officiate. Burial will take place at Duplain Township Cemetery, St. Johns, MI. Visitation will be held on Sunday and Monday 2-8 PM with the family present 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Johns Chapel St. Johns, MI.
Thelma was born in Osseo, Michigan on January 31, 1923, the daughter of Charles and Ruth (Carr) Flint. She married Harry J. Harden on September 6, 1942 in Osseo, MI and he preceded her in death on February 17, 2011 after 68 years of marriage. Thelma worked for attorneys, Arnold and Arnold in Ithaca, MI and Robert H. Wood in St. Johns, MI. She was a retired legal secretary from Clinton County Probate Court. Her favorite profession though was being a mother and grandmother and spending time in her gardens at the farm, cooking, baking, making cards, visiting the sick and spending winters in Punta Gorda, FL.
Thelma was a member of Duplain Church of Christ, St. Johns, MI, where she was active in women’s groups, and served as choir director and pianist. She also organized Ovid Healthcare’s Sunday church services. Thelma also enjoyed her involvement with the First Christian Church in Punta, Gorda, FL.
She is survived by her daughter, Roberta and Jay Wiseman of St. Johns, MI; son, Robert and Julie Harden of Ovid, MI; son, Bruce and Patsy Harden of St. Johns, MI; daughter, Brenda and Mark Masarik of St. Johns, MI; son, Charles and Rosanne Harden of St. Johns, MI;, daughter-in-law, Judy Harden of Elsie, MI, 16 grandchildren, Rhonda, Rick, Roxanne, Rob, Brad, Matt, Laurie, Kathy, Karen, Kelly, Jeff, Jamie, Eric, Michael, Brianna and Johnathan, 30 great grandchildren with one on the way and one great great grandson, Thomas, with another on the way. In addition to her parents and her husband, Thelma was preceded in death by a son, William Harden, granddaughter, Lindsey Harden, sister, Marjorie Sanford and a brother, Keith Flint.
Memorials may be made to Duplain Church of Christ. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Johns Chapel St. Johns, Michigan.


Opal Parker
Opal Bernice (Kosht) Parker, age 92 years, of Ovid passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2012. Opal was born sixth out of seven children to Lewis and Mable (Longcor) Kosht on May 6, 1919, on the family farm. She went to the country school and then graduated from Ovid High School in 1937.
On December 31, 1938, she married Henry Parker in Angola, Indiana. They had three children and lived in Ovid their entire life. He preceded her in death on August 14, 1988. Opal worked at the old Ovid Nursing Home, was a childcare provider and worked at Sheldon’s Packing House before retiring. She was a member of the Acme Society and a volunteer at Ovid Healthcare. She attended the United Church of Ovid.
Her favorite things besides her family were, camping at Rose Lake every summer, Bingo; any time any place, and (all afternoon) Euchre games.
Opal is survived by her son, Clare Parker, daughter Sandy Kettler, and son, Keith (Patti) Parker, all of Ovid. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Gregg (Holly) Criner of Ovid, Gary (Bob Sauer) Criner of Ovid, Kim (Kip) Scott of St. Johns, Kristopher Parker of Ovid, Kelly (Jodi) Parker of St. Johns, Eric (Jackie) Parker of Ovid, Clint Parker of Ovid, Maggie Parker of Philadelphia, PA, step-grandson, Jon Ewell of Virginia Beach, VA. She also has 14 great grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Martha Wilson of Corunna and her sister-in-law Ila Kosht of Ovid, as well as many nieces and nephews and other loving family members. Those who preceded her death are her husband, Henry Parker, brothers, Angus Kosht, Elvin Kosht, Willis Kosht, Donavon Kosht and sister, Adra Wittenberg.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 4, 2012, with Pastor Greg Buchner officiating at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes in Ovid. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, at 12:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service.
Memorial donations may be made to the Ovid-Middlebury Fire and Ambulance Dept. or the United Church of Ovid.
