Debra Jean Wilson
Debra Jean Wilson, age 58, of Alma, MI died Saturday January 5, 2013 at Gratiot Medical Center in Alma, MI.
A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel on Saturday January 12, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor George Showers officiating.
Debra was born in St. Johns, Michigan on April 28, 1954, the daughter of Raymond Eugene Teall and Joyce Ellen (Caesar) Snell. She graduated from St. Johns High School with the class of 1972. Debra retired from General Motors Oldsmobile in October 2004, after 27 years of service. She liked sewing, playing bingo, and going to the casino. She also enjoyed playing Yahtzee and cards with her friends, and the coffee was always on at her house.
She is survived by her 2 daughters; Stacy Marie and Joe Hynes of Mt. Pleasant, MI, Heather Danielle and Aaron VanHorn of Sumner, MI, 2 grandchildren; Aaron Jr. and Alexandria VanHorn, 4 brothers; Roy Burgess of St. Johns, MI, Lenny Burgess of St. Johns, MI, Raymond Burgess of St. Johns, MI, Raymond Teall, Jr. of Sanford, MI, 2 sisters; Ellen Upham of Rhodes, MI, and Diane Teall of Sanford, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather Walter Snell, and a sister Jacqueline Sue Little.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Pardee Cancer Fund. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca Chapel Ithaca, Michigan.
Marian K. Shipley
Marian K. Shipley passed away January 6, 2013, at the age of 91. Marian was born December 24, 1921, in Millcreek Township, PA. She was the daughter of Anthony and Rose (Holtz) Krieger. Marian married Charles Shipley on July 26, 1947 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Erie, PA. Charles preceded her in death on January 9, 1976.
Marian was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She was a homemaker, a graduate of Academy High School in Erie, PA; was employed by Vaughn Seed, was an avid bingo player and enjoyed sneaking away to go fishing.
Marian is survived by her children, Ellen (Carl) Radder of Dresden, NY, Diana (A.J.) Grubaugh of Elsie, Marian (Keith) Horsley of Ovid, Margaret (Charles) Becton of Belfast, TN, Charles Shipley of St. Johns, Ruth Brown of Flushing, John Shipley of Elsie, Alice (Bud) Knapp of Elsie, Nancy Shipley of Owosso, 14 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Florence Springer and Rose Welz, both of Erie, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Fred Krieger and sister, Alice Krieger.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 10, 2013, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Ovid, MI, with Fr. Raymond Urbanek presiding. Burial will follow the service at Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m. at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes in Ovid. Memorial donations may be made to the Holy Family Catholic Church of Ovid.

Leonard Earl Jastram
Leonard Earl Jastram, age 88, passed away on January 3, 2013 in Saginaw, Michigan. He was born in Riley Township, Michigan July 7, 1924 the son of Earl and LuluAnna (Marten) Jastram. Leonard married Virginia Marten on October 18, 1944 in Riley Township and she survives him.
Along with his wife, Leonard is survived by two daughters, Marsha (Dennis) Neumeyer, Elaine (Larry) Conrad, grandchildren, Scott Neumeyer, Joel (Shannon) Neumeyer, Tanya (Gary) Munger, Amanda Neumeyer, Jessica Conrad, great grandchildren, Elise Neumeyer, Kate Neumeyer, Nolan Munger, Landon Munger, one sister, Caroline (Carl) Minnis and one brother, Gerald Jastram. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Edith Jastram and Edna Boak, and in-laws, Dorothy Jastram and Charlie Boak.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Monday, January 7 , 2013 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 8990 Church Rd. in Riley Twp., with Pastor William Roper officiating and Sem. Mark Warner assisting. Burial will follow at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns, MI. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Peter Lutheran Church or school.

Martha L. French
Martha L. French, age 75, passed away January 1, 2013 in Temple Texas. Martha was born in Owen, Wisconsin on March 24, 1937, the daughter of Oscar and Mabel (Petersen) Larsen. She was a member of Oak Park United Methodist Church in Temple and former member of the First Congregational Church in St. Johns. She graduated with honors from Rodney B. Wilson High School in St. Johns in 1955. Martha married Donald French in St. Johns on September 3, 1955 and he preceded her in death on March 8, 2002.
Surviving are her daughter, Kristine (Jim) Tapp of Temple, Texas, son, Eric French of Georgetown, Texas, and grandsons, Michael Tapp, Jacob Tapp and Kenneth French. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Robert Larsen, Allan Larsen and Eugene Larsen.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Monday, January 7, 2013 at the Osgood Funeral Homes, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns, burial at South Bingham Cemetery with the Rev. Matt Olson officiating. The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to First Congregational Church of St. Johns or the diabetes research foundation, JDRF.org
Nancy Lou Smith
Nancy Lou Smith, age 75, of Ithaca, MI died Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at her home.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca, MI on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. Pastor George Showers and Pastor John Hagerman will officiate. Burial will take place at New Haven Township Cemetery, Gratiot County, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Nancy was born in Fulton Township, Michigan on September 24, 1937, the daughter of Thomas and Winifred (Sage) Trefil. She graduated from Fulton High School with the class of 1956. Nancy married Charles Donald Smith on January 18, 1958 in Middleton, MI. Nancy was a lifelong resident of the area, and enjoyed baking and decorating cakes. She also collected salt & pepper shakers, and enjoyed meeting friends to eat at Pizza Sams and Wendys. She was an avid sports fan, especially for U of M, Detroit Tigers, and Detroit Pistons. Spending time with her family was most important to her. Nancy helped Don farm, and loved attending Country Gospel Jamborees. She attended New Haven Church of God.
She is survived by her husband Donald Smith of Ithaca, MI, son Mark and Cherie Smith of St. Johns, MI, daughter Elaine and David Kooy of Caledonia, MI, son Mike Smith of Ithaca, MI, son Jeff and Julie Smith of Ithaca, MI, 17 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, many nieces & nephews, mother in law Dorothy Smith of Ithaca, MI, sister June Swan of DeWitt, MI, brothers; Thomas and Barb Trefil of St. Johns, MI, Robert and Sarah Trefil of Sumner, MI, sisters in law; Linda and William DeVuyst of Ithaca, MI, Phyllis Trefil of Perrinton, MI, Joyce Trefil of Perrinton, MI, and brother in law Robert Whitford of Rapid River, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, father in law Lester Smith, 4 brothers, and 2 sisters.

Charles L. Frost
Charles L. Frost, 71 of Murfreesboro, TN formerly of St. Johns, MI died on January 1, 2013 in Murfreesboro. Charles was born on December 19, 1941 the son of Charles W. and Shirley J. (Roberts) Frost. He graduated from St. Johns High School. On August 6, 1965 he married Dawn King in St. Johns. Charles served in the National Guard and was a real estate appraiser prior to his retirement. Charles was a Master Mason of the St. Johns Masonic Lodge, past officer of Backus Masonic Lodge in Cassopolis, MI, Past High Priest of Kingsbury Chapter #78, R.A.M., Past Illustrius Master of Niles Council #19, Past Commander of Niles Commandry #12 , held an office in the Grand Chapter of Michigan, and was a member of KYCH Shriner’s, Tall Cedars of Lebanon.
He us survived by his wife, Dawn; son, Greg Frost of Pinehurst, NC, and daughter Angie (Brian) Hostetler of Murfreesboro, TN. Grandchildren, Madison and Drew T. Hostetler; sister, Lana Jean (Dennis) Johnson of Paw Paw, MI and brother, Jack (Julie) Frost of Dexter, MI.
Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 11:30 A.M. with Pastor David Hudgens officiating. Burial will follow at Sowle Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home Saturday morning, 9-11 A.M. Memorials may be made to Shriner’s Hospital.
Rev. Edward William Wilson
Rev. Edward William Wilson, born in St. Johns, Michigan, July 2nd, 1938, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2012 in Sebring, Florida at the age of 74. He was preceded by his parents, Mary Alice Wilson and Ralph Wilson and Stepmother, Esther Wilson.
He leaves his wife of fifty three years, Karen and his children, Amy Parkinson (Kenneth) of Jerome, Michigan, Clark Wilson (Elizabeth) of Owosso, Michigan and Margaret Shipman of Sebring, Florida. Grandchildren, Lisa, Nicole and Andrew Parkinson, Zane and Ethan Wilson and Amy Cox (Charlie). Three sisters, Norma George, Kay Stilwell (Dave) of Ovid, Michigan and Patricia Seidel (Carl) of Ovid, Michigan.
A graduate of Ovid High School in Ovid, Michigan, he entered Albion College where he received a degree in Biology and Education. While teaching at Mona Shores High School, near Muskegon, Michigan he spent summers studying for his master’s degree in micro-biology at the University of Oklahoma.
In 1972 the family relocated to St. Paul, Minnesota, where he attended Northwestern Theological Seminary earning his Masters of Divinity. He was ordained in 1976 at Samuel Lutheran Church in Muskegon, Michigan. He served churches in Minnesota and Michigan until moving to Sebring, Florida in 1983 where he taught Special Education at Sebring High School. Upon retirement he became the Minister of Visitation at the First United Methodist Church in Avon Park, Florida.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday, January 6, 2013 at the United Church of Ovid 131 W. Front St. with Pastor Greg Buchner officiating. Visitation will be 1 – 2 PM prior to the service on Sunday at the United Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Albion College, First United Methodist Church in Avon Park, The United Church in Ovid, Michigan or the Gideon’s. The family is being served by the Osgood Funeral Homes.
