Clara B. Gallihugh
Clara B. Gallihugh, 87, passed away on February 20, 2013. Born March 7, 1925 in Midland County, Michigan, she was the daughter of Joseph and Minnie (Penoyer) Colbry. Clara married Delbert Gallihugh on March 27, 1964 and he preceded her in death on January 12, 1987.
Clara is survived by her children, Joyce Doty of St. Johns, Linda (Robert) Pettigrew of St. Johns, Mack Jones of Santa Cruz, CA, brother, Joseph Colbry, 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Delbert Gallihugh, 7 siblings and 4 children, Mack Leon Jones, Ronald Jones, Robert Jones and Judy Skorna.
Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 24, 2013 with Chuck Emmert officiating, at the Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial donations for Clara may be made to Hazel I. Findlay.

Clifford Eugene Saxton
Clifford Eugene Saxton, 88 died on February 19, 2013 in Phoenix, AZ. He was born on January 15, 1925 in Duplain Twp., Clinton County, MI the son of Donald Francis and Elise Dell (Cook) Saxton. On April 26, 1946 he married Charlotte Virginia Milligan in Ovid MI. Cliff was a WWII Veteran – U.S. Army, 536th Amph. Med. Det. and served many months in the South Pacific during the war. He worked at Moore Chevrolet in Ovid for many years as a mechanic, salesman and parts manager.
He is survived by his daughter, Cyndi Saxton Jorae, Phoenix, AZ and son Philip Saxton, Wayne, MI; 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; one brother, Lynn (Mike) Saxton of Ovid; two sisters, Joyce Dush, of St. Johns and Lona (Sally) Sweet of Liberty, S.C. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sylvia Jane Franklin, three brothers, Donal, Edward and Leo Saxton and two sisters, Florence Bradley and Pauline Nethaway.
The family will receive friends and relatives at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home in St. Johns on Thursday, February 28, 2013, beginning at 9:00 A.M. until service time at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Chuck Emmert will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns, MI. Marshall E. Holland
Marshall E. Holland, age 84, of Houghton Lake, formerly of Crystal, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2013 at his home. Marshall was born January 11, 1929 in Ferris Township the son of Elmer and Mary Belle (Strait) Holland. He was raised in Crystal and graduated from Crystal High School, the class of 1947. In school he excelled in both baseball and basketball. He married Janice Durbin on July 9, 1949 in Crystal. Marshall was a hard worker, having been employed by Federal Mogul and driving trucks for Total Petroleum. He also owned and operated his own dairy farm. He was a former member of the Crystal Congregational Church and Crystal Masons before moving. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; children, Marcia (Dave) Biehl of St. Louis, Stephen Holland of Walker, Donna (Marty) Wilson of Omer, Jeannette (Joe) Ellsworth of Stanton, David (Laura) Holland of Brant, Gary (Peggy) Holland of Stanton; 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; also a sister, Louise (Ted) Johnson. Marshall was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Keith.
Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Lux and Schnepp Funeral Home, Crystal with Pastor Ried Martin officiating. Interment will be in Ferris Center Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Crystal Congregational Church.


Jennie D. Richards

Jennie D. Richards, age 86, passed away February 15, 2013 in Lansing, Michigan. Jennie was a loving wife of Bill Richards, Jr.; devoted mother of Polly, Lynn (Tom) Quinn, Chris (Martha), Jill, Jay (Kristin), and Jeff; grandmother of Leslie, Melissa, Kate, Jacob, Alec, and Sammy; great grandmother of Will, Aulora, and Haley. Jennie was surrounded by a wonderful extended family, including many nieces, nephews, dear friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents Clifford and Marjorie, sister Doris, and grandson Jonathan.
Jennie grew up in Yale, MI. where she met husband Bill. Both went to MSU and they married in 1948. Their love and partnership was a blessing evident to all. She taught in Lansing prior to raising a family; and when nearly all the kids had flown the roost, she became a teacher’s aid at the Intermediate School District in St. Johns. Nurturing a family came naturally to her as she always offered a sense of well being! She was a long-time member of the First Congregational Church of St. Johns where she was active in all corners of the church and most recently the Baby Pantry and the Friendly Service Committee. All who made their way into their home on Lindy Lane were welcomed and delighted by the beauty of her garden, nourished at the kitchen table, and sent away with bushels of love.
A Memorial Service will be 1 PM Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the First Congregational Church of St. Johns, 100 Maple St. in St. Johns. Her family will receive friends from 11 – 12:50 just prior to the service. There will also be a luncheon following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church of St. Johns or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Richard Carl “Rick” Saylor, Jr.
Richard Carl “Rick” Saylor, Jr., age 43, of St. Johns, MI died Sunday February 17, 2013 at his residence with his family by his side.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns, MI on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Steven Lang officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Richard was born in Carson City, MI on March 6, 1969, the son of Richard Carl and Judy Roseltha (Lambert) Saylor. He married his high school sweetheart, Loretta M. “Lori” Plesko on October 3, 1998 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Chesaning, MI. Rick owned/operated Saylor’s Welding, Inc. with his wife Lori. He was a member of Hope Bible Baptist Church in Maple Rapids, MI,
Rick truly loved spending time with his children-they were the love of his life. He coached his son and nephews when they played little league baseball. Rick enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and riding his dirt bikes. Rick also liked playing airsoft combat activities and playing basketball with his sons, brother, nephews and friends.
Rick is survived his wife, Lori Saylor of St. Johns, MI, three children, Christian, Garret and Alyssa Saylor, four sisters, Elizabeth Cummings of Freeland, MI, Lynette and Bill Schmidt of Bannister, MI, Leandra and Todd Fox of Ovid, MI, Lynna and Tim Nierescher of Ashley, MI, two brothers, Kevin and Julie Saylor of Bannister, MI and David Saylor of Freeland, MI and sister-in-law, Julie Saylor. Rick is also survived by Lori’s parents, Milan and Beverly Plesko of Perrinton, MI, sister-in-law, Annette and Brian O’Dell of Ashley, MI, brothers-in-law, Mark Plesko of Greenville, MI, Pat Plesko of Ashley, MI and Paul Plesko of Perrinton, MI, many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jonathan Saylor, sister and brother in law, Lisa Ann and Garret Hayes, nephew, Garret John Hayes.

Irene Ardis Schultheiss
Irene Ardis Schultheiss, 99, went home to be with her Lord, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at Schnepp’s Health Care Center in St. Louis, Michigan. She was born on August 12, 1913, in rural Middleton, Michigan, the daughter of Claude and Lula Howell.
She married Dale Schultheiss on December 2, 1933. They were blessed with 74 years together and four children, Susan (Bob) Wernick, of Riverdale, Carol (Ron) Dow of Wichita, KS, and Jim (Tomi Ann) Schultheiss of St. Johns, and her son Dennis who preceded her in death in 1968. She will be greatly missed by her children and their spouses, 12 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale in 2008, a brother, Lee Howell, and a sister, Leota Cochran.
During the course of her life she was a beautician, a custodian, a bus driver, and a teacher’s aide for disabled children. But her first loves were helping to run the family farm in rural St. Johns, and being a homemaker and mother. Taking an early retirement, she and Dale moved to Zephyrhills, Florida and lived there many happy years enjoying the sunshine and working in her flower beds. In 2004 they moved back to Michigan to be close to their family. Her favorite pastime was sketching and painting pictures which she lovingly gave to family members. She was a member of the Forest Hill Church of Christ and enjoyed worshiping with the five generations of her family who attended there.
Funeral Services will be held at the Forest Hill Church of Christ, 10015 N. Luce Rd., Alma, MI, on Wednesday, February 20, at 11:00 a.m., with John Robinson officiating. Visitation will be at the Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns on Tuesday, February 19, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. There will also be visitation at the Church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Mt. Rest Cemetery in St. Johns with graveside services for the family at a later date.

Leroy H. Bendt
Leroy H. Bendt, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away on February 14, 2013 at the age of 85. Born November 20, 1927 in Detroit Lakes, MN. He was the son of Alfred and Alice (Pensyl) Bendt. Leroy was a member of the U.A.W. Local #652; retiring in 1993 from General Motors Transportation Division.
Leroy was joined in marriage to Lois (Stevens) Bendt on August 20, 1962 and she survives him. He is also survived by four children, Debra (Brian) Curtis of Ionia, Marcy (Anthony Calabro) Glick of Orlando, FL, Duane Bendt of Ionia, Missy (Scott) Livasy of Ionia, 20 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, sister, Carol (William) Moxley, brother, David (Patricia) Bendt, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, SSgt. Leroy S. Bendt, grandson, Derek S. Calabro, and brother, Alfred Bendt, Jr..

Jeanette M. Schomisch
Jeanette M. Schomisch died Thursday February 14, 2013 at the age of 82. She was born September 27, 1930 in Ashley, MI the daughter of Albert and Mildred (Jones) Shaw. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Ladies Altar Society. She spent many hours as a volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul, helping with funeral dinners and she loved to work in the yard and decorate for every holiday. Jan worked as a clerk at the former Ben Franklin Store; she worked in food service at the St. Johns Public Schools and along with her husband, was co-owner and operator of Kurt’s Appliance Center in downtown St. Johns. On February 15, 1950 she married Raymond E. Schomisch and he survives her.
Also surviving is a daughter, Hope Hoskins of St. Johns; three grandchildren, Jody Hoskins of FL, Jacob (Amanda) Hoskins of VA, and Rachel Hoskins of FL; three great grandchildren, Payton and Jacob Tyler Hoskins and Mikayden Schneider; special niece and family, Teri, Dan, Abi, Danny and David Seperic of St. Johns; one brother, Harold (Flossie) Shaw of Mears, MI and one sister, Marilyn “Peggy” Pung – Maury and husband Bill Maury of Gaylord; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother in law Leon Pung.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Monday, February 18, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church 109 Linden, St. Johns with Rev. Fr. Michael Williams as Celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 2-4 and 6-8 PM Sunday February 17, 2013 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns. A rosary will be prayed at 3:00 PM and a vigil service held at 7:00PM Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Education Fund or St. Vincent DePaul.


Carol Yvonne Foster
Carol Yvonne Foster, age 75, of Barryton, MI formerly of St. Johns, MI died Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Masonic Pathways, Alma, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel, 2057 N. Lansing Street, St. Johns, MI on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 2:00 P.M., with Rev. Cayle Beagle officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 15, 2013 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Carol was born in Perry, MI on November 26, 1937, the daughter of Donald and Donna (Barret) Harris. Carol formerly worked as a dietitian at Sparrow Clinton Hospital and was a member of the First Congregational Church, St. Johns, MI. She loved cooking, sewing, gardening and watching birds. Carol especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her 6 children, son Rick and Renee Foster of Eaton Rapids, MI, daughter Chris and Ricky Halfman of Evart, MI, daughter Lori Vallance of Barryton, MI, daughter Cam Bond and Wayne Karber of St. Johns, MI, son Steven Foster and Jerome Ginsburg of New Mexico and son James and Maryanne Foster of West Bloomfield, MI, 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, sister Sue and Ralph Moeggenberg of St. Johns, MI, sister-in-law Shirley Foster of Mt. Pleasant, MI, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by both husbands; Richard Foster and James Bond and 3 brothers; Ron, Robert and John Harris.
