John Spousta
John Spousta, 92, passed away on July 10, 2013. Born January 19, 1921 in, St. Johns, he was the son of John and Josephine (Zitkova) Spousta. John was a member of the First Congregational Church of St. Johns. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, ZCBJ Hall in Banister and was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting. John married Mildred (Valasek) Spousta on August 30, 1947 in St. Johns, and she preceded him in death on October 11, 1992.
He is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Alva) Woodhams of Hesperia, MI, Karen Spousta of DeWitt, grandson, Michael (Shanna) Luznak of Pewamo, two step-grandchildren, Adam (Kristie) Woodhams, Aimee (Dan) Brown, seven step-great grandchildren, Jami Woodhams, Joe, Dylan, Skyler and Kohl Brown, Cole and Zackary Raines, as well as several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, wife and son, John Spousta.
Funeral Services will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013 with Pastor Cayle Beagle officiating at the Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. Memorial Donations may be made to the Masonic Temple #105 or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Gary O. Lott
Gary O. Lott passed away in the house of his birth, July 8, 2013 at the age of 80. Born February 7, 1933 in Middlebury Twp., Ovid, MI. He was the son of Arley and Mary (Englehart) Lott. Gary married Christine (Larisch) Lott on March 18, 1960, in Hanau, Germany and she survives him.
Gary is also survived by his children, Gary Lee Lott, Conrad (Sharon) Lott, David Lott, Wayne Lott and Sherrie (Paul) Shaw. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren and great grandchildren, one sister, Sarah Allen, many nieces and nephews and cousin, Bud Thomas and family. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gale Lott.
Cremation has taken place and graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 2, 2013, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Owosso.
The family is being served by the Osgood Funeral Homes.
Helen Kurncz
Helen Kurncz, age 85, of Bradenton, Florida, died July 1, 2013 at St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia, Michigan. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 26, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, 4635 26th Street West, Bradenton, Florida 34207, with refreshments to follow at the church.
Helen was born in St. Johns, Michigan on December 7, 1927. Her parents were John and Elizabeth (Bielcik) Martis. She married John Kurncz on September 27, 1947 and celebrated 64 years of marriage before his death in 2011. Together they operated mint farms, first in Michigan and then in Wisconsin, until their retirement in 1977. After retirement, they became full-time Florida residents. Helen devoted her life to raising her family and working on the farm. She was a skilled cook, who specialized in Slovak and other Eastern European dishes. She was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church and for several years was social director of the Village Green Section 7 Association.
Helen is survived by her son Kenneth (Christine) Kurncz of Northville, Michigan and a daughter, Angela Kurncz of Seattle, Washington, together with two grandsons, John Andrew “Andy” (Cori) Kurncz of Fenton, Michigan; Jeffrey Kurncz of Northville, Michigan and two great-granddaughters, Lauren Kurncz and Kaitlyn Kurncz of Fenton, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Paul and John Martis and sister, Olga Panik.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Lutheran Church.
Rev. Fr. Wolfgang Streichardt
Rev. Fr. Wolfgang Streichardt, age 74, of Saginaw, Michigan, formerly of Bannister, Michigan died Saturday, July 6, 2013 at St. Francis Home in Saginaw, Michigan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church, 517 East Main Street, Bannister, Michigan on Friday, July 12, 2013 at 11:00 A.M., with Bishop Joseph R. Cistone presiding. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 11, 2013 from 1:30 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. A Rosary will be prayed at 3:00 P.M. and a Vigil service will be at 7:00 P.M. St. Cyril’s Catholic Church, with Fr. Marcel Portelli presiding.
Father Wolfgang Streichardt was born on October 9, 1938 in Erfurt, East Germany. He was one of 11 children born to Margaret and Paul Streichardt. He lived in Germany until 1956. Wolfgang came to Canada in 1968 and attended schools in Nova Scotia from 1968-1972. He completed his theological studies at Catholic Theological Union, Chicago, IL. He was ordained a priest by the Most Rev. Ken Untener, then Bishop of Saginaw, on November 21, 1983.
Fr. Streichardt pastoral assignments were; Associate Pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Chesaning, Michigan, Pastor of St. John the Evangelist Parish, in Peck, Michigan, Pastor of St. Patrick Parish, Croswell, Michigan, A Regional Vicar and he was the former Pastor at St. Cyril Parish, Bannister, Michigan.
Survivors include 7 brothers; Gerhard, Alois, Hermann, Thomas, Norbert, Rudolf, Bernard, and 1 sister Elisabeth, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, 1 sister Ursula Kiel and 1 brother Gunter.
Memorials may be made to Missionaries of Charity or Guadalupe Partners. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, Michigan.
Stanley Wilson Whitlock
Stanley Wilson Whitlock passed away on July 7, 2013 at the age of 89. Born February 13, 1924 in Greenbush Township, MI. He was the son of Earl and Emma (Crom) Whitlock. Stanley was a member of Greenbush United Methodist Church as well as a member of Farm Bureau, Centennial Farms Association and Brown Swiss Association. Stanley married Ila (Darnell) Whitlock on February 16, 1946 in Olive Township, MI and she preceded him in death on May 15, 1994.
Stanley is survived by his son, Dennis (Fran) Whitlock of St. Johns, Daughter, Judy Romig of Midland, grandchildren, John Whitlock of Jackson, Wendy (Micah) Hassenzahl of Adrian, Matt Whitlock of Los Angeles, CA, Abbey (Dennis) Tomko of Midland, Gretchen (Ian) Pruden of Taylors, SC, Mike (Candace) Romig of Farmington Hills, seven great grandchildren, Charley and Ila Tomko, Marquis, Khaliq, Landen and Watson Pruden, Jordan, Noah and Grace Hassenzahl, sister, Lois DeLaMater of Charlotte, sister-in-law, Joyce Whitlock and brother-in-law, Walter (Barb) Viges.
He was preceded in death by his wife, mother and father, brother, Earl J. Whitlock, sister, Doris (Whitlock) Daniels, son-in-law, Charles Romig, sisters-in-law, Iva (Darnell) Warner and Arlene (Darnell) Viges and brother-in-law, Ray Warner.
Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013 with Pastor Ian Pruden officiating at the Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Greenbush United Methodist Church and Hometown Home Health and Hospice.
