Gary L. Light
Gary L. Light passed away on Sunday October 20, 20113 peacefully in his home after a long illness. He was a husband, father, grandfather, loyal friend business leader and mentor to so many.
Gary was born in St. Johns, MI to Edward and Margaret Light. He graduated from St. Johns High School in 1955. He then served in the United States Navy form 1955 to 1958. After his military service, he attended Ferris State University in Big Rapids, MI where he graduated in 1962.
Gary’s business leadership and accomplishments are perhaps what he is best known for. He was a Certified Public Accountant for Arthur Anderson & Co. from 1962-1973. He served as Chief Financial Officer for Mayflower Transit, Inc. from 1973-1987 where he oversaw them going public. He then served as Chief Financial Officer for Medtronic Sofamor Danek USA, again overseeing them becoming a public company. In recent years, he served as a trusted advisor, mentor and consultant for many organizations including part owner and CEO at Bear Slide Golf Club in Cicero, IN.
Gary was very active as a leader in the Indianapolis Community as well. Among his associations was The Junto of Indianapolis since 1981 and Meridian Hills Country Club and many other philanthropic organizations. He was an avid golfer and passionate Indianapolis Colts Fan. And everyone who knew Gary, knew how much he loved his dog Riley.
Gary is survived by his wife of 51 years Janet, sons Paul, Mark and Michael, daughters-in-law Angela Light and Jamie Light, brother Eddie Light of St. Johns, MI, sister Helen Oullette of East Tawas, MI, eight grandchildren Brenden, Tyler, Shane, Alexandra, Margo, Stefani, Aaron and Jaxon and one great grandchild, Joslyn. He was predeceased by his mother and father Edward and Margaret Light, brother James Light, sister Irene Paine and daughter-in-law Julie Light.
Family and friends will gather on Wednesday October 23rd from 4:00 to 8:00 pm in the Leppert Mortuary Crematory Nora Chapel with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated on Thursday at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. William P. Schrauben
William P. “Bill” Schrauben, age 82, of Fowler, MI died Saturday, October 19, 2013. Born January 14, 1931 to Peter and Irene (Simon) Schrauben, Bill served in the US Air Force and was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW Post #3733, and was a Dallas Township Volunteer Firefighter. Bill was a lifelong farmer, as well as a Supervisor for General Motors where he retired after 32 years of service. He married Glenna Jeanne Willard and she preceded him in death in 2003.
Surviving are his children, Bill (Linda) Schrauben, Debra Franks, Gary (Margaret) Schrauben, Dean (Sue) Schrauben, and Don (Becky) Schrauben; 17 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Jane Sammons, Donna (David) Hawkins; brothers, James (Shirley Weeks) Schrauben and Peter (Joan) Schrauben; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to Bill’s wife, Glenna Jeanne, he was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Stephen Schrauben; sister, Joan and brother-in-law Don Salmond; sister-in-law, Kay Schrauben; and brother-in-law, Preston Sammons.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler, with burial following at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery with Fr. Dennis Howard presiding. The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM Monday, October 21, 2013 with a Rosary being prayed at 3PM and a Vigil Service at 7 PM at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home, 11112 W. Ionia St., Fowler, MI 48835.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Most Holy Trinity Educational Trust Fund, 545 N. Maple St., Fowler, MI 48835. The family was served by Osgood Funeral Homes.
