Joey Hutchings
Joey Hutchings passed away unexpectedly early Sunday morning, June 15, 2014. Joey participated in several sports, including basketball, bocce, softball and poly hockey. He won many medals and ribbons as an athlete in Special Olympics. He was giving and always willing to support his family and his fellow athletes. Joey will be missed by all who were blessed to have known him.
Joey is survived by his parents, Joe and Theresa Hutchings, a brother Brian and sister Trisha, all of St. Johns.
Joey was an organ donor, and his remains have been cremated. Special Olympics Area 28 will hold a memorial and a celebration of Joey’s life at the main pavilion in St Johns City Park on Friday, June 20 starting at 6 pm. They will be sharing snacks, photos,and wonderful memories.
Andrew Michael Hanacek
Andrew “Andy” Michael Hanacek, born December 28, 1923, passed away Monday, June 16, 2014 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing at the age of 90.
Surviving him are one brother, Mike Hanacek of Wayland, one sister, Dorothy Hackett of Wayland, 3 sisters-in-law, Mary, Stella and Cathy and many nieces and nephews. Andy was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Hanacek, brothers, Steve, John, Joe and sisters, Thelma and Judy.
Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Doug Osborn presiding. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Wayland, MI for the family at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends on Thursday, 6-8 p.m. at Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns, MI. Contributions may be made in memory of Andy to the American Legion #153 or St. Joseph Catholic Church. The family is being served by Osgood Funeral Homes. Military services provided by the St. Johns Honor Guard.
Pearl “Peggy” Williams
Pearl “Peggy” Williams, age 84, passed away on June 17, 2014 in St. Johns, MI. She was born on October 11, 1929, in East Detroit, the daughter of George and Pearl (Naismith) Hayter. She married Vernon Williams on March 5, 1948 in Dearborn, MI, and he preceded her in death on June 18, 2003. Pearl was a loving wife and mother and she loved to sing. She was a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Plymouth, MI, where she was active in music ministry. Pearl was also a prayer warrior for widows, and currently a member at St. Johns First Baptist Church.
Surviving are her children, Richard (Carol) Williams of Indiana, David (Cindy Hartzell) Williams of Constantine, MI, and Patricia (Mark) Lutz of St. Johns, 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, sister in law, June Hayter and many nieces and nephews. Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon, her parents and brother, George Samuel Hayter.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014 at St. Johns First Baptist Church with burial to follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery, Pastor Tim Knaus officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns, MI. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Pearl to First Baptist Church/Beacon of Hope.
The family is being served by the Osgood Funeral Homes.
Eva M. Miller
Eva M. Miller, 83 of rural St. Johns died on Friday, June 13, 2014 surrounded and comforted by her family. She was born on June 18, 1930 in Rhodes, MI the daughter of George B. and Eva (Offenbecker) Mesh.
Eva graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School in 1947 and on April 15, 1950 she married Robert L. Miller in Angola, IN. Eva was a homemaker and had worked at Saylor-Beall, Wesley’s 5 & 10 variety store in Ovid and the cafeteria at Ovid Junior High School. Eva was a member of the Duplain Church of Christ, co-leader for Campfire Girls, enjoyed crocheting, sewing, reading, gardening, a card ministry and especially her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Robert, daughters Susan (John) Gilpin of St. Johns, Sally (Dave) Long of Elsie and son Robin (Ann) Miller of Bancroft, MI; Grandchildren, Shelley Gilpin, Tina Saltsman, Eric Gilpin, Mike, Brad and Travis Long, Heidi Blaha, Katie Nance, Robert Miller, Molly Morgan, Linda Bancroft, James and Robert Blunt, 46 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren and Brothers Joe, Jack and Dave Mesh. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother George Mesh and grandson John Robert Gilpin.
Memorial services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 12 noon with Pastor Justin Shepard officiating. Martha G. Jones
Martha G. Jones died Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the age of 85. She was born August 13, 1928 in St. Johns, MI the daughter of Stafford and Mary (Jolly) Smith. Martha enjoyed crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.
Surviving are two sons, Paul (Wendy) Barrett of Laingsburg and Dennis (Mary) Barrett of Holt; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; a sister, Sally Martin of OK and a brother, Harry “Pete” Smith of Owosso and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Jeannie Dickenson and Rosemary Loynes.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2014 at the Duplain Church of Christ 5565 E. Colony Rd. St. Johns. Memorials may be made to the Duplain Church of Christ. The family was assisted with these arrangements by Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns.
