Thomas C. Schafer, 77, of St. Johns, retired state corrections officer (Ionia), died Wednesday September 24, 2014.
There will be no services. Arrangements by Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns.


Harry Cecil Pugh Jr.
pugh_harryHarry Cecil Pugh Jr., age 83, of Elsie, MI passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Memorial Healthcare, Owosso, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 1:00 P.M., with Pastor Ray Strawser officiating. Burial will take place at Ford Cemetery Gratiot County, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2014 from 6-8 P.M. and on Friday, September 26, 2014 from 2-8 P.M. at the funeral home. A Masonic Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday evening at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI.
Harry Cecil was born in Flint, Michigan on November 21, 1930, the son of Harry C. and Lyla (Morey) Pugh. He graduated from Elsie High School with the class of 1950. Cecil served his country in the U.S. Air Force. On December 20 1952 Cecil married Joyce Deming in Elsie, Michigan. They have been married 61 years. Cecil worked for Oldsmobile in Lansing for 36 years, retiring in 1988. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, and reading. Cecil was a 4 H leader for many years. Spending time with his family was very important to him. He resided most of his life in the Elsie area, and was a Lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge, Elsie, and the St. Johns / Ovid Lodge. He was also a member of the Bay City Consistory, Masonic Grand Lodge and Scottish Rights and the Shriners. Cecil was a member of Elsie Baptist Church, Elsie, MI.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Pugh of Elsie, MI, 3 daughters; Brenda Harris and JR Mellon of Cassopolis, MI, Bonnie and Mark LaRue of Elsie, MI, Barbara Heinze and Mike Evans of Bannister, MI, 6 grandchildren & 8 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, 1 sister Onalee, and 2 brothers; Ormond and Frank.
Memorials may be made to Clinton County RESA. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, Michigan.


Edith G. Schavey
Edith G. Schavey, age 90, passed away on September 22, 2014. She was born on March 27, 1924 in Clinton County the daughter of Fred and Ida Eisler. Edith married Lewis Schavey on July 28, 1944 and he survives her.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Cole Schavey of Traverse City, Michigan, Raven (Brady) Bolinger of Wolverine, Michigan and Naomi Schavey of Traverse City, Michigan, three great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Mabel Beck and Mildred Roof as well as many nieces and nephews. Edith was preceded in death by her parents, son, Lee Schavey, four brothers and one sister.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
The family is being served by the Osgood Funeral Homes.


John Skapik
John Skapik, age 87, passed away on Sunday September 21, 2014. He was born on November 7, 1926 in Clinton County, the son of Stefan and Marta (Vavara) Skapik. He was retired from Federal Mogul, but his heart was home on the farm.
He is survived by his niece, Ethel Kuhns and his great-niece, Lisa Hollis.
The funeral service will be on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 East Cass Street, St. Johns, MI with Earl Barks officiating. Burial will follow at Ford Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ford Cemetery.

John L. Luttig
luttig_johnJohn L. Luttig, age 65, passed away on September 18, 2014. He was born on June 5, 1949 in St. Johns the son of the late Norman and Rosaline (Thelen) Luttig. He graduated from Lawrence Tech with a degree in architecture and was employed by the Federal Government doing architectural design for the U.S. Postal service. John was a member of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and established scholarship foundations for architectural and engineering students. He enjoyed traveling, cooking, bicycling and genealogy and was proud of his German heritage.
He is survived by his loving family, sisters, Janice (Sam) Simmon and Jean Luttig, nephew, Travis (Brenda) Simmon, niece, Lindsay (Nate) Simmon, step-great nephew, Tate and step-great niece, Kylee.
Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 22, 2014 at 10:30 a.m., at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler with Fr. Eric Weber presiding. Burial will follow at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Goerge Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, 11112 W. Ionia St., Fowler on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, MSU, 556 E. Circle Dr., Room 344, East Lansing, MI 48824 or the R.E. Olds Museum, 240 Museum Dr., Lansing, MI 48933.

Arthur Warren Bloomer
bloomer_arthurArthur Warren Bloomer, age 84, of St. Johns, Michigan passed away Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Laurels of Fulton.
A Memorial Service will be held at Wacousta United Methodist Church, Wacousta, MI on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Lyle Heaton and Pastor Amee Paparella officiating.
Arthur was born in Wyoming, Michigan on June 6, 1930, the son of Theron A. and Jennie M. (Markel) Bloomer. He graduated with a Master Degree from Michigan State University. On July 28, 1990 he married Gail Holda in Wacousta United Methodist Church.
Arthur was an epidemiologist and was the Division Chief of Environmental Epidemiology for the State of Michigan. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and his golden retrievers and beagles. He enjoyed living and going to the U.P. of Michigan. He resided most of his life in Wacousta and the St. Johns area, and was a member of Wacousta Community United Methodist Church, Wacousta, Michigan. Art was also a member of the NRA, Ducks Unlimited, Sleepy Hollow Conservation Club, Great Lakes Entomological Society, and the Michigan Mosquito Association. He also enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels for Clinton County.
He is survived by his wife Gail Bloomer of St. Johns, MI, 5 daughters; Ruth Bloomer and Fred Shipman, Judy Bloomer and Jeff Walters, Diane Bloomer, Andrea and Nathan Reniewicz, Elizabeth Nelson, 5 grandchildren, 1 sister Nancy Clancy, and 1 brother William and Barbara Bloomer. He was predeceased by his parents, and 1 sister.
The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Johns, Michigan.
