Deborah A. Harvey
harvey_deborahDeborah A. Harvey, age 59, passed away October 7, 2014. She was born in Kalamazoo on October 16, 1954 the daughter of Douglas and Joy (Winters) Hart. She married Mark Harvey in Eureka on September 30, 1978 and he survives her.
Also surviving Debbie is her sister, Dawn Hart-Allen of St. Johns, forty-six nieces and nephews, two grandchildren, Aidan and Avelyn and their parents – James and Jennifer Johnson, brothers and sisters-in-law, Karen (Al) Latimer, Mike Harvey, Stephan (Cheryl) Harvey, Keith (Claire) Harvey, Bob (Carol) Harvey and brother, Rick Hart. She was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas and Joy Hart, son, Douglas Cole Harvey, brother, Randy Lee Hart, brother-in-law, David Harvey and sister-in-law, Janet Harvey.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 12, 2014 at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns, with Pastor Tim Knaus officiating with burial to follow at Union Home Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Contributions may be made in Deborah’s memory to Sparrow Hospice.

Lillian Marie Bass
bass_lillianLillian Marie Bass daughter of Terry and Brittney (Smak) Bass, passed away on October 3, 2014 at the age of 5 ½ weeks old. She was born in St. Johns on August 25, 2014.
Along with her parents she is survived by her sisters, Kiara Belle Parker and Olivia Lindsey Smak, grandparents, Bill Smak of St. Johns, Carolyn Tokarchick of St. Johns, aunts, Dawn Zepeda, Nichole Smak, Amanda Smak, Erica Call, Megan Tokarchick, uncles, Barney Bass, Donald Zepeda, Dustin Pierce, Corbin Tokarchick, Jacob Tokarchick, Bradley Bullard and Ryan Heinlen, Godfather, Lynn Thelen and great grand mother, Lillian Smak.
Funeral services were held Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 10:00a.m. with Pastor Virginia Wickwire officiating at the Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns.


Michael R. Smith
smith_michaelMichael “Mike” R. Smith, passed away October 8, 2014, at the age of 63. He was born in St. Johns, Michigan, the son of Leonard and Bernettia (Roach) Smith. Mike married Mary Lou Mueller on May 20, 1972 in Fowler, Michigan and she survives him. He retired from General Motors after 30 years. He was an active member of the Pewamo Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed his grandkids and yard work that he did around the neighborhood. He was also on the Pewamo Village Council for over 20 years.
Mike is also survived by son, Brian Smith of Pewamo, daughters, Becky (Michael) Yerge of Pewamo and Kim (Derek Wylie) Smith of Rock Hill, SC and son, Patrick (Kerri) Smith of Ionia, three grandchildren, Wyatt Smith, Rylee Smith and Zola Wylie, his sister Sandy Vergeson, several brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, brother Patrick Smith, his father and mother-in-law, Henry (Lucille) Mueller.
Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:30 am, Saturday, October 11, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 126 East Street, Pewamo, Michigan with Fr. Charlon Mason presiding, with burial following at St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 9, 2014 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm with a Rosary at 8:00 pm, Friday, October 10, 2014 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm with a Rosary at 3:00 pm and 7:00 – 9:00 pm with a Vigil at 8:00 pm at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mike’s name to the charity of the family’s choice.

David E. Harger
harger_davidDavid E. Harger, 83 of St. Johns, MI died on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Okemos Rehabilitation Center. David was born on December 21, 1930 in Bluffton, IN the son of Claude and Josephine (Shutt) Harger. He graduated from Holly High School, Lansing Community College and worked at General Motors as a tool and die maker. David was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, the Army reserves and the Navy Sea-Bees. David was married to Carol Hallock, and she preceded him in death. He enjoyed fishing, hunting was a member of the N.R.A., American Legion and Pilgrim United Methodist Church.
Survived by his children, Sharon (Gordon) Willett of Coral, MI, Christine Harger and her fiancé Greg Dean, of Haslett, MI, Daniel Harger of Spring Hill, TN, Eric (Terri) Harger of St. Johns and Holly (John Noble) Harger of Florida. Step children, David (Delores) Tompkins of St. Johns, MI, Gordon (Tina) Tompkins of Lansing, MI, Traci (Darrell) Deering of St. Johns and Steve Hallock of FL 33 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by step children, Mike and Diane Tompkins.
Memorial services will be held at Pilgrim United Methodist Church on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 12:30 P.M. with Pastor Andy Croel officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to Pilgrim United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends and relatives at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Thursday, October 9, 2014, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.


Gregory T. Teichman
teichman_gregGregory T. Teichman died Sunday, October 5, 2014 at the age of 56. He was born February 3, 1958 in Owosso, MI the son of Thomas and Sue (Rumery) Teichman. Greg was a graduate of Corunna High School, Class of 1976 and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting in 1985 from Michigan State University. He then earned the designation for Certified Management Accountant in 1997. Greg was an avid fan of MSU athletics, was a member of St. Johns Kiwanis Club 707, serving as President for 2012/2013 year, and a very caring and giving person. He currently is the City Treasurer for the City of St. Johns. On May 24, 2014 he married Jennifer Brown and she survives him.
Also surviving is a step-son Ryan VanSickle; his father and step-mother, Thomas and Jean Teichman; a sister, Lisa (Tim) Sullivan; brother-in-law, Matthew (Leslie) Brown; parents-in-law, Diane (Tom) Woodhams and Michael (Joanie) Brown and several other loving family members. Greg married Patricia Houghton on June 30, 1990 and she preceded him in death in 2008. He was also predeceased by his mother, Sue.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Pastor Tyler Barlage officiating, Interment will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 12:00 noon until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Johns Kiwanis Club 707 or the American Cancer Society for pancreatic cancer research 1755 Abbey Rd. East Lansing, MI 48823.


Angus Fraser MacKinnon
mackinnon_frazerAngus Fraser MacKinnon passed away October 5, 2014, at the age of 90. He was born in Joliet, IL, on September 17, 1924, the son of Edward and Dolina (Fraser) MacKinnon. Fraser married Barbara Bull on May 16, 1953 in Sparta, MI. Fraser served with the U.S. Navy during WWII, owned E. MacKinnon & Son dry goods store in St. Johns for many years, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of St. Johns. He enjoyed fishing, working with computers, spending time with his grandchildren, and vacationing at his cottage on Pickeral Lake.
Surviving Fraser are his children, Alexander Fraser (Jane) MacKinnon and Elizabeth (James) MacKinnon Eaton; his three grandchildren, Maggie, Duncan and Andrew; brother-in-law, Dr. John Bull; and nine nieces and nephews, Cathy (John) Kish, Rob (Edie) Wilcox, David (Susan) Wilcox, Kathleen Richmond, Ken (Joan) Richmond, Fran (Rick) Saplis, Greg (Julie) Bull, Sean Bull and Kelly (Brian) Rimar. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara; his sister, Catherine (Robert) Wilcox; and his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church of St. Johns at 200 E. State St. with Pastor Ellen Zienert officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Osgood Funeral Home 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns. William J. C. Bancroft
bancroft_williamWilliam J. C. Bancroft, age 75, passed away on October 1, 2014. He was born in St. Johns on December 24, 1938, the son of Guy and Helen Bancroft.
Bill is survived by his children, Melissa (Daniel) Rue of St. Johns, Laura (Joe) Harbenski of Maple Rapids, Wenda (Armond) Smith of St. Johns and Debbie (Gary) Shook of Perrinton, 9 grandchildren, Lyle Parkinson, Nicole (Tom) Furlano, Alesha (Jason) Haynie, Noel (Jessica) Smith, Amber (Eric) Martin, Billi Jo (Nic) Ney, Nina (Rick) Dibble, Eddie Parkinson and Cody Smith, 19 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Guy Bancroft and Rick (Retha) Bancroft, 1 sister, Kay (Bob) Gladstone and many, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, William J.C. Bancroft, wives, Lois Anderson, Mary Vasilakis and Angie Gossios.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, October 5th, a viewing and visitation from 6-7 p.m., and a service to follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Jerry Kissling officiating at the Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns. Memorials may be made to a charity of the family’s choice.

Howard Eugene Bryant
bryant_howardHoward Eugene Bryant, Sr. was born on December 25, 1906 in Eureka, Michigan went home to be with his lord and savior on October 3, 2014, at the age of 107 years. He was the first child of Edwin Earl and Myrtie Mae (Metzger) Bryant. Howard attended grade school in Eureka and high school in St. Johns, graduating in 1924 at the age of 17. He entered Michigan State College in 1926 after working on the family farm for a couple of years. He belonged to the Phi Chi Alpha fraternity and worked his way through college for a few years.
In November of 1933, Howard married Pauline Leone (Wagner) and went to work at Oldsmobile. Howard began to attend classes again at MSC and graduated in 1937. He began a teaching career and in 34 years of teaching he taught school at Quincy, Maple Rapids, Fennville, Sand Creek and Ashley, all schools in Michigan. The subjects he taught were, Agriculture, Shop, Biology and Chemistry.
After retirement from teaching, he served as Mayor of Ashley for eight years and worked at Rehmann’s Clothing Store in St. Johns. His first wife Pauline, passed away in 1973. He married Arleen Mosher Sheldon of Ovid in 1983, and moved to Ovid. They had attended high school together. Arleen preceded Howard in death in 1998. Howard enjoyed traveling, reading books, Hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking, and oil painting which he took up at age 92, and his faithful dogs Ginger and Abby. He was a member of United Church of Ovid, the Ovid Lions club, and was a lifetime member of the MSU Alumni Association and Michigan Public Schools Retirement Association.
Howard is survived by children, Sharron Bair of Sioux City, Iowa, and Howard (Ruth) Bryant, Jr. of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Also surviving are his son in law, David Schanz of Seffner, Florida, stepdaughter, Margo (Larry) Martin of Ovid, Michigan, and 17 grandchildren , 31 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, wives, daughter, LuAnn Schanz, his brother, Richard Bryant, sister, Helene Hankey, son in law, William Bair, step son and daughter in law, Keith (Hilda) Sheldon and step grand daughter, Kari Sheldon.
A Funeral Service will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at the United Church of Ovid, 131 W. Front St, Ovid, with Pastor Paul Damkoehler officiating and burial taking place at Eureka Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, October 6, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Houghton Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, 232 E. Oak St, Ovid, MI. Memorial donations may be made in Howard’s memory to the United Church of Ovid.


Edwin J. Gemalsky
genalsky_edwinEdwin J. Gemalsky 56, of Grand Ledge, MI died on September 30, 2014 at McLaren Greater Lansing. Ed was born on July 23, 1958 in Eaton Rapids, MI the son of Irven and Shari (Owen) Gemalsky. He graduated from Eaton Rapids High School in 1977 and on August 9, 1985 he married Becky. Ed had worked for Lansing Mercy Ambulance, and had retired as a bus driver for Grand Ledge Public Schools after 14 years of service. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed camping, cooking dancing and singing. He especially loved long drives.
He is survived by his wife Becky, daughter Kasey, Mother Shari Clough and step-father Bob Clough of Eaton Rapids, sister Elaine (Jim) Mock of Eaton Rapids. Nieces and nephews, Jonathan (Amber) Mock, Meghann (Jeremy) Barnett, great nieces Anya and Aria Mock and Riley Barnett; step sister, Susie (Jeff) Grunewald of Rochester Hills, MI and step brother, David (Jodi) Clough of Traverse City, MI. Ed was preceded in death by his father, Irven and step sister, Nancy Fleck.
Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at 4:00 P.M. led by Pastor Larry Schrauger. The family will receive friends and relatives beginning at 2:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Ele’s Place, Capital Area Humane Society or the charity of the donor’s choice. Following the service there will a dinner reception in the lower level of the funeral home.
