Irene E. Jumper
Irene E. Jumper, age 92 died on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Hospice House of Mid Michigan. She was born on October 5, 1922 in Duplain Twp., MI the daughter of Alfred C. and Minerva M. (Slane) Dickenson. Irene married Stanley Jumper on May 8, 1940 and he preceded her in death in 1989. She had worked as a nurse aide, school bus driver and teacher’s aide and was active in farming with her husband. Irene was a member of the Michigan Centennial Farm Association and the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel of Clinton County.
Survivors include her daughters, Lucinda (Nick) Dunay of Ovid, MI, Dawn (David) Boechler of Laingsburg and Alberta MacDonald of Alma, MI; 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Christine Rademacher and sons-in-law Dennis McDonough and Kenneth Rademacher, 4 sisters and 2 brothers.
Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Chuck Emmert officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home on Friday, October 17, 2014, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to Clinton Area Ambulance Service or Hospice House of Mid-Michigan.

Anthony John “Tony” Chapko, age 90, loving husband, father, and grandfather, of Elsie, MI passed away Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Sparrow Health Systems, Lansing, MI.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church in Bannister, MI on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at 11:00 A.M., with Rev. Fr. Bill Gruden officiating. Burial will take place at Ford Cemetery, Gratiot County, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie, MI. Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Tony was born in Pompeii, Michigan on April 25, 1924, the son of Steven and Elizabeth (Skriba) Chapko. Tony married Rose A. Michalovic on November 6, 1954 at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Shepherd. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Tony worked at Motor Wheel in Lansing and Elsie Machine for many years. He was currently employed for the past 28 years as a custodian at St. Cyril’s until his passing. His faith and family were the most important things in his life. Tony enjoyed gardening and watching sports. He was a proud Notre Dame and Detroit Tigers fan. Tony was a faithful member of St. Cyril’s Catholic Church in Bannister, MI where he was also active in the Knights of Columbus. He resided in the Elsie area most of his life.
He is survived by his wife Rose Chapko of Elsie, MI, 9 children; Donna and Dale Adolph of Ithaca, MI, Kenneth and Bernice Chapko of North Star, MI, Edward and Sheila Chapko of St. Johns, MI, Laurence Chapko of Grand Ledge, MI, Ronald and Amy Chapko of Dewitt, MI, Patrick Chapko of Ashley, MI, Peter and Angela Chapko of Perry, MI, Kathleen and Thomas Speer of Elsie, MI, and Martin and Kelly Chapko of St. Johns, MI, 19 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 2 sisters; Mary and Stan Divish of St. Johns, MI, Margaret Chovance of California, and brother Charlie Chapko of St. Johns, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, children; Daniel and Rosanne Chapko, brothers; Bill, Mike, John, Frank, and Steve Chapko and Joe Skriba, sisters; Irene Matousek, Anna, and Katherine Chapko, and Helen Casnovsky.

Wanda Loyce (Schmidt) Ward, 61, of St. Johns, retired former John Henry and BA Florist employee, died Thursday October 9, 2014.
Kenneth C. Thelen
Kenneth C. Thelen, age 69, passed away peacefully at home on October 9, 2014. He was born in Portland, MI, on March 19, 1945, the son of Alvin and Loretta (Smith) Thelen. Ken married Barbara Ward in St. Johns on April 3, 1971 and she survives him.
Also surviving are their children, Pam (Patrick) Stump, Ken (Jaime) Thelen, Becky (Jack) Miller, son-in-law, Chris Tipps, grandchildren, Kendra, Taylor and Kyle Stump, Kenny Thelen, Damien and Holly Miller, Hailey, Emma and Breeann Tipps, five brothers, Alan (Sandy), Chuck, Leon (Grace), Dale (Barb) and Dan, three sisters, Mary Ann (Mike) Schneider, Linda (Bob) Hoppes, Sharon Droste and many nieces and nephews. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Loretta, daughter, Kerri Thelen Tipps and granddaughters, Jacklynn and Carly Miller.
Ken’s sense of humor kept a smile on the face of all who knew him. His colorful phrases and quick wit will be remembered and allow his spirit to remain close in the hearts of those who loved him. Ken worked as a mason all his life but he wasn’t just a bricklayer, he was a true artist. His talents and physical presence will be missed greatly.
Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 10:30 a.m., at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Fr. Dennis Howard officiating, burial to follow at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Goerge Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes in Fowler on Sunday from 7-9 p.m., with a rosary at 8 p.m., and on Monday, 2-4 p.m., with a rosary at 3 p.m., and 7-9 p.m., with a vigil service at 8 p.m. Donations may be made in memory of Ken to the Dallas Twp. Fire Dept. The family was served by the Osgood Funeral Homes.
James M. Dellvon
James M. Dellvon, 74, of St. Johns, Michigan, went home to heaven welcomed by His Lord and Savior on October 7, 2014. Jim passed away peacefully following a battle with cancer. During his courageous fight, his attitude was an inspiration and a blessing to all who knew him. Jim was born on November 25, 1939 in Ontonagon, Michigan, the son of Martin and Cora Dellvon. Jim attended Ontonagon High School and then served in the US Navy from 1957-1960 on the USS Hancock. He graduated from Michigan Technological University with honors in 1966. On August 21, 1982 Jim married Sharon S. Crouse at Grove Bible Church. He worked for 28 years for Leaseway Auto Carriers of Lansing as Master Diesel Mechanic retiring in 2001. He also taught Diesel Mechanics part-time at Lansing Community College for 17 years.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife Sharon; children David (Elaine) Dellvon of Wausau, Wisconsin; Robert (Deborah) Dellvon of Simi Valley, California; Wendy (Bill) Marrison of St. Johns, Michigan; Richard (Audra) Sweet of Bath, Michigan and William (Heather) Dellvon of Laingsburg, Michigan; sister Joan Dellvon of Virginia Beach, Virginia and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother William Dellvon.
The family will receive friends and relatives at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E Washington in DeWitt, on Friday, October 10, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday October 11at the church. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 11, at Grove Bible Church, 6990 E. Price Rd. in St. Johns with Pastor Tim Van Loh officiating. Burial will follow at Stilson Cemetery in St. Johns. Memorial contributions may be given to Grove Bible Church in memory of Jim.
Robert Speidel
Robert “Spider” Speidel, age 71, passed away October 6, 2014. He was born in Clinton Co., on January 20, 1943, the son of R.G. and Ida Mae (Thompson) Speidel. Bob was a loyal friend, loving son, devoted father and caring brother whose heart was filled with humor and joy, he loved the woods and enjoyed making maple syrup.
He is survived by his daughter, Sara (Kirk Anderson) Markman of Grand Rapids, sister, Carolyn (Robert) Bough of West Bloomfield, MI, two brothers, Paul Speidel of Alto, MI, and Roger Speidel of St. Petersburg, FL, his mother, Ida Mae Speidel and two nieces, Kathryn Bough of Northville, and Cynthia (Dennis) Kubert of Livonia. He was preceded in death by his father, R.G. Speidel.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the UAW Hall, 117 W. Walker St., St. Johns at 11:30 a.m. The family was served by the Osgood Funeral Homes.
