Agnes Rose Brown
Agnes Rose Brown of Chelsea, age 98, died Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Chelsea Retirement Community. She was born September 1, 1916 in Oakley, Michigan, the daughter of Alphonse and Agnes (Kuchar) Caudy. Agnes worked for her dad at St. Johns Laundry. She was a member of the Sisters of the House of the Good Shepherd, first in Dearborn Heights then at St. Gerard in Detroit. Agnes attended St. Joseph Church in St. Johns when she was young, and St. Mary in Chelsea. She moved to Chelsea Retirement Community 14 years ago, where she spent a lot of time helping people in the nursing center. Agnes was always caring for others. She was kind and loving to her entire family.
Survivors include a step-son, Kent (Pamela Byrnes) Brown of Chelsea; step-daughter Vicki (Dan) Webster of Pinckney; a brother, Joseph (Bernice) Caudy Sr.; two sisters, Therese (Bill) Van Wormer and Margaret (Peter) Klein. She was preceded in death by three husbands, Victor Stephens, Lyman Ringle, Victor Brown; her step-son, Bruce; three brothers, John, Alphonse, Vincent; and three sisters, Mary Fox, Anna Kusnier, and Rose Wilson.
A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, February 5, 10:30 am at Chelsea Retirement Community, Chelsea, with Rev. Dr. William J. Turner officiating. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to United Methodist Retirement Community Foundation, 805 W. Middle St, Chelsea, MI 48118. Edwin J. Schomisch
Edwin J. Schomisch, age 91, of Fowler, MI, died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family on January 26, 2015. Edwin was born April 19, 1923 in Fowler, the son of Edward and Anna Schomisch. Ed enjoyed doing everything with his wife, Agnes. He loved life, the outdoors, his birds, and playing cards. He had a heart as big as his barn. He married his wife Anges Smith in Westphalia, MI. Edwin is survived by his wife, Agnes, of 70 years, his four daughters, Christine Witt, Karen Schomisch, Kathy Schomisch, and Ellen Schomisch (Steve). He cherished and enjoyed his six grandchildren, Dana, Derek (Rachelle), Anne (Steve), Doug, Karah, Sheena (Luke). He adored his eight great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is his sister, Marie Stevens, sisters-in-law Marie Schomisch and Rosie Schomisch, In-laws Melvin (Dorthea) Smith, Rosaline (Lester) Feldpausch, Pauline (Carl) Feldpausch, Adeline (Bernard) Feldpausch, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Edwin was preceded in death by his children, Gary and Ann, son-in-law, Douglas Witt, as well as his brothers, Lester, Leonard and sisters Rose (Leonard) Thelen and Esther (Henry) Theis.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 30, 2015 at Most Holy Trinity Church with Fr. Dennis Howard presiding, burial to follow at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday with a scripture service at 7 p.m., at the Goerge Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes in Fowler. Contributions may be made in memory of Edwin to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Doris Alzina Steinhardt
Doris Alzina (Sibley) Steinhardt passed away January 14, 2015. Doris Alzina (Sibley) Steinhardt was born on June 27, 1922 in Dewitt Michigan. She was the daughter of Alger Russell and Lilah Ruth (Parkhouse) Sibley. She received her education in Dewitt Public Schools and later attended Lansing Central High School graduating in 1939. She was also a graduate of Acme Business College in Lansing, Michigan. She married Carl Frank Steinhardt on May 17, 1941 at the Dewitt Community Church.
Carl and Doris had met as children when they and their parents were members of the Dewitt Grange. She began her business career with the Chamber of Commerce and during World War II she worked for Nash-Kelvinator in Lansing, a defense industry manufacturing aircraft propellers. Doris had two children Gary Carl in 1944 and Shirley Jane in 1947. She put her career on hold until her children reached school age. She later worked for twenty seven years at Information Services in the College of Agriculture at Michigan State University retiring in 1984. She lived most of her life in rural Dewitt and moved to Ocala, Florida in 1986. She was a member of the Dewitt Community Church and later of the First Presbyterian Church of Ocala. She served for a number of years as a 4H leader and shared with young 4Hers her special skills in needlecraft and as a seamstress.
Doris is survived by her son Gary and his wife Thinh of West Lafayette, Indiana and by her daughter Shirley and husband James Stone of Ocala, Florida. She is also survived by her three granddaughters; Angela A. Steinhardt and her husband Jonathan Sobieski and their daughter Jolie Aimee of Boston, Massachusetts, Alison L. Stone and her husband Christopher Collins and their daughter Madison Lynn of Ocala, Florida and Sarah J Steinhardt of Tampa, Florida. She is also survived by her sister in law Shirley Sibley of Seattle Washington and brother in law Robert Schultheiss of Traverse City, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her two brothers, Russell A. Sibley and Howard A. Sibley and her sister Delene L. Schultheiss.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 11:00am at the Gorsline Runciman DeWitt Chapel, 205 E Washington St., DeWitt, MI. The family will receive friends from 4pm to 7pm on Friday, January 30, 2015 at the DeWitt Chapel, and one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Lansing, MI.
Joseph (Shag) Yurek
Joseph Stanley (Shag) Yurek, age 88, of St. Johns, MI died Sunday, January 25, 2015. Joe was born on February 1, 1926 in Duplain Township, MI, the son of Joseph Edward and Agnes Mary (Marek) Yurek. He married Margaret J. Carroll on May 21, 1949. Joe served his country in the U.S. Marines during WWII. He was a proud member of the Owosso-based Harold R. Cooley Detachment of the Marine Corps League. Joe was also a member of the American Legion Post #153 and VFW Post #4113 in St. Johns.
Joe retired from Fisher Body in 1977 after 31 years of service. After retiring, he worked as a magistrate for the Clinton County District Court and as a court officer for the Clinton County Circuit Court. Joe was an avid reader, enjoyed fishing, golfing and playing cards and watching the Tigers. He was also an artist having some of his paintings on exhibit at the Clinton County Arts Council of which he was a member. He was also a member of the Men’s Art Group.
Joe is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret Yurek of St. Johns, two sons, John Yurek and Holly Hansel of Fairbanks, AK and Daniel Yurek and Lydia Fulmer of St. Joseph, MI, one daughter, Carole and Gerald Mitchell of St. Johns, MI, three grandsons, Colin Mitchell and Lee McGuire of Boston, MA, Erik and Rachel Mitchell of Nashville, TN and Justin Fulmer of St. Joseph, MI and one great grandson, Yurek Mitchell. Joe is also survived by two sisters, Margaret Berry of Virginia Beach, VA and Joanne and Daryll Heinrich of Ovid, MI. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Clark, one brother, Robert Yurek and foster son, Dennis LeVeck.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Osgood Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Michael Williams presiding. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at the funeral home with a Vigil Service prayed at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Sparrow Hospice Services, 1210 W. Saginaw, Lansing, MI 48915.
James Frederick Halfmann
James Frederick “Minnow” Halfmann, age 67, passed away on January 22, 2015. Born in Fowler, MI, December 5, 1947 the son of Alfred Sr. and Seraphine (Noeker) Halfmann, he lived most of his life in the Fowler area. He was a member of Most Holy Trinity Church and the Knights of Columbus. Jim served in the United States Army and was a life member of VFW Post #3733 (Past Commander) and was a member of the 716th Military Police during the Vietnam War. Jim retired from GM after 30 years of service. On August 12, 1983 he married Carol Ann Van Eck in Fowler, MI. Throughout his life Minnow loved his faith, family, friends, farming, hunting, history, playing cards and black and white films. His wisdom and always positive outlook on life will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife Carol and sons, Matthew Christopher Halfmann, David Anthony Berry (Carrie), Christopher Robert Berry (Traci) and grandchildren, Dakota, Kylee and Marley, sister, Anne (Larry) Pohl, brothers, Alfred Halfmann, Charlie (Marilyn) Halfmann, Bob (Donna) Halfmann, sisters in law, Sharon Halfmann, Bobbie Van Eck and Wretha Van Eck, brother in law, Phil Bennett and mother in law De louise Van Eck. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Kenneth, sister, Marilyn (Don) Fedewa, sisters in law, Joyce and Gladys Halfmann, brothers in law, John and Richard Van Eck, sister in law, Theresa Lorraine Bennett , and father in law, Robert Eugene Van Eck.
Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Most Holy Trinity Church in Fowler with Fr. Dennis Howard presiding, burial to follow at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday with a rosary prayed at 3 and a vigil service at 7 at the Goerge Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes in Fowler. Military Services provided by VFW Post #3733. Contributions may be made in memory of James to VFW Post #3733 or Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
