Melanie D. Patrick
patrick_melanieMelanie D. Patrick, 88 of Ovid, MI died on February 4, 2015 at Hazel Findlay Country Manor. Melanie was born on April 26, 1926 in Ovid the daughter of Eugene and Daisy (Jourdain) Pouillon. She attended Ovid High School and due to WWII she left the 11th grade to work at Redmond’s in Owosso. She married John Patrick on June 3, 1944 in Ovid and worked at Ovid Convalescent Manor as a nurse aide for many years. She enjoyed canning, crocheting and her family.
She is survived by children, Patricia (Everett) Fuller of Brutus, MI, Mary (Don) Martin of Elsie, MI, John (Paula) Patrick of Tustin, MI and Eugene Patrick of Ovid. 9 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Melanie was preceded in death by her husband, John in March, 1998 and by daughter Denise Prikasky in 1987 and brothers Julius and Lawrence.
The family will receive friends and relatives at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home in St. Johns on Saturday, February 7, 2015, 11:00 to 1:00 P.M. Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to Hazel Findlay Country Manor.


Hubert “Hub” Becker

A memorial service will take place on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses., 1210 N. Lansing St, St. Johns, MI. 48879.

Marlene Ethel Swarthout
swarthout_marlene2Marlene Ethel Swarthout, age 75, of Bannister, Michigan died Thursday, January 29th, 2015 at Sparrow Health Systems, Lansing, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI on Tuesday, February 3rd at 11:00 A.M. , Pastor Mona Dye and Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck will officiate. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday 4-8 P.M. . at Smith Family Funeral Homes.
Marlene was born in Chesaning, Michigan on February 25, 1939, the daughter of Reuben and Ada (Walters) Pontious. She graduated from Elsie High School with the class of 1957. On October 19, 1957 she married Charles Monroe Swarthout in Bannister, Michigan. Charles passed away on November 26, 2014.
Marlene retired from Walmart in St. Johns, Michigan. She was a member of Bannister United Methodist Church and the Elba Sunshine Club, she enjoyed singing in the church choir, Quintet, and was very active in the adult Sunday School class. She enjoyed bowling, playing pool, line dancing and being with family and friends
She is survived by son, Jerry and Pam Swarthout of Corunna, MI; daughters, Sheila Swarthout of Owosso, MI; Jaeleen and Dale Adkins of Texas; Norita Swarthout of Bannister, MI; daughter in law, Tina Swarthout of Owosso, MI; grandchildren, Tiffany and Ganesh Rajamonickam of Washington, DC. Ashley Swarthout of Corunna, MI, Amanda and Phil Swarthout-Pearce of Johannesburg, , MI, Misty Mason of Georgia, Samantha Swarthout of Marion Springs, MI, Ken and Brandy Adkins of Texas, Trenna and Jimmy Smothermon of Texas; Stephanie and Doug O’Neal of Texas; 18 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, a son, Richard,

Elinor McDiarmid Lockwood Gallant
gallant_elinorElinor McDiarmid Lockwood Gallant, of Perrinton and formerly of St. Johns died January 31, 2015 at the Laurels of Fulton at the age of 97. Born March 3, 1917 in St. Johns, she was the daughter of Ambrose and Minnie (Mathieson) McDiarmid. Elinor graduated from St. Johns High School class of 1935, was a member of United Methodist Church in St. Johns, and retired from Wolverine Shoe in Ithaca.
In 1937 she married Lafie Lockwood and together they had 4 children. After their divorce in 1954, Elinor met Clair Gallant at a New Year’s Eve party and they were married on July 1, 1967. She enjoyed traveling and camping with Clair, going out to dinner, riding in parades on wagons pulled by ponies, and attending Clair’s pony pull competitions. After Clair’s death in 1990, Elinor moved to St. Johns where she enjoyed going to lunch with family and friends, especially Kay Pratt, who dined with her when family was unable. Elinor loved being around her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
Surviving are two children, Janis Lavonne (Kelvin) Price and Chester (Linda) Lockwood; daughter-in-law, Anne Lockwood; 13 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and 12 great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Clair, she was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Lockwood; daughter, Darlene Lockwood Hope; 6 brothers, Kenneth, Robert, Donald, Allen, Neal, and Bruce McDiarmid; 1 sister, Ruth Pettit; and grandson, Kale Price.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns with Pastor Bill Dye officiating. Burial will be at Washington Township Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Monday, February 2, 2015 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Pompeii Methodist Church for the Wesley Woods Building Fund.

Raymond Guy Pope, Jr.
pope_raymondRaymond Guy Pope, Jr., age 78, passed away January 30, 2015 in Lansing, MI. Raymond was born February 1, 1936 in St. Johns, MI the son of, Raymond and Irene Pope. Raymond married Donna Rae Alvord on October 3, 1964 in St. Johns, MI. and she preceded him in death on February 19, 2000. Raymond was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Johns Lions Club, and a proud member of the American Legion Post #153.
Raymond is survived by his children, Theresa (James) Ziccardi of Andover, NJ, and David (Heather) Pope of Dewitt, MI. Also surviving are grandchildren, Logan and Blake Benson, Anthony (Sarah) Ziccardi, Lauren (Stephen Callendrillo) Ziccardi, Jacob and Luke Pope, great grandson; Zach”Flash” Ziccardi, brothers; Russell Pope, Jim (Gail) Pope, aunt; Marie Smith. Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and daughter, Maryann Pope.
Funeral services will take place 11:00 am Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Osgood Funeral Homes, 104 E. Cass St, St. Johns, MI., with Fr. Michael Williams presiding. The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 3, 2015 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the funeral home with burial to follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The St. Johns Honor Guard will provide the military honors at the funeral home prior to burial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Johns Red Wing Athletic Boosters , St. Johns High School, 501 W. Sickles, St. Johns, MI. 48879 or the Capital Area Youth Sports Association, 4615 N. Grand River, Lansing, MI. 48906.

Edward William Louth

louth_edwardEdward William Louth, age 78, passed away on January 27, 2015. He was born in St. Johns on March 11, 1936, the son of Walter and Harriett (Easterbrook) Louth.
Edward is survived by his wife, Martha, children, Kathy Louth of South Haven, Sherre Stevens of Oakley, LeeAnn Agudelo of Laingsburg, Deborah (David) Nearhood of Owosso and Nathaniel Jones of Ovid. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, two brothers, four sisters and many nieces and nephews. Edward was preceded in death by his parents.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. The family was served by the Osgood Funeral Homes.
