Esther I. Carey
Esther I. (Ritter) Carey, 83 of St. Johns, MI died Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at Ashley Care Center. Esther was born on March 29, 1927 in Maple Rapids, MI the daughter of Ernest and Blanche (Curtis) Moore. She attended St. Johns High School and had worked at Clinton Care Center, St. Johns Public Schools and was a member of First United Methodist Church. On October 15, 1944 she married Roland Ritter and he preceded her in death in 1981. On May 14, 1983 she married Clifford C. Carey in St. Johns, and he died Jan. 4, 2009.
She is survived by children, Daniel and Linda Ritter, Les and Rose, Brian and Linda K. and Suanne and Jeff Spicer, all of St. Johns; 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; step children, Patricia Ann and Don Stocker of Charlotte, Clifford and Cathy Carey Jr. of Petoskey and Sharon A. and Doug Hildren of Lansing.
Her brother, Ken Moore, preceded her in death as did infant daughter Susan.
Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Lori Sykes officiating. Burial will follow at Stilson Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, 6-8 P.M. and Friday, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Assn or charity of donor’s choice.
Raymond L. Ebert
Raymond L. Ebert, 81, of Arcadia, died Friday, June 18, 2010, at his home. He was born at his family home March 13, 1929, in Arcadia, the son of Arthur R. and Mary Ellen (Mason) Ebert. Ray graduated from Frankfort High School with the class of 1948. He went on to serve our country in the U.S. Marine Corps as a sergeant radio electrical aircraft repairman and was honorably discharged. After the service, Ray attended and graduated from Ferris Institute in 1958. He married Carolyn Neumann on Aug. 22, 1959, at Christ Lutheran Church in Lansing.
In 1963 they moved to St. Johns, where he taught 7-8 grade science. They retired in 1991 and moved to Arcadia, where they owned and operated a bed and breakfast. Ray was active in Hospice, Lions and other charities.
He is survived by his children, Lisa Ebert of Waterford and David (Una) Ebert; and granddaughters, Michala and Madeline of Rose Bush. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn in 2003; and brother, Robert in 1974.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, June 23, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Jowett Family Funeral Homes in Benzonia. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 24, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arcadia, with Rev. Ted Beiderwieden officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.

Gordon Mahar
Gordon Mahar, age 91, of St. Johns died Saturday, June 19, 2010. He was born November 2, 1918 to Patrick and Grace (Losey) Mahar in Olive Township. Mr. Mahar was a grocery store owner and operator in Pompeii, MI. He married Lela M. Fyan on June 17, 1944 and she survives him.
Also surviving are his daughter, Pamela (Brian) Sievert of Rainbow Lake; sons, Arthur (Deborah) Mahar of Belding, and Kayle (Kendra) Mahar of Kinross; grandchildren, Matthew and Jeffery Sievert, Aaron (Laurie) Sievert, Kathleen, Rebecca and Christopher Mahar, Erica (Michael) Roberts, Jeffrey and Joshua Mahar; great grandchildren, Dominic, Aevri, Haedyn and Alyssa Sievert, Kaidyn, Sophia and Estella Roberts; brother, Robert Mahar.
Mr. Mahar was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Thomas Mahar.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at the Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns with the Rev. Cayle Beagle officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
