Cecelia J. Platte
Cecelia J. Platte slipped away quietly to be with her Lord and Savior on July 12, 2010 after an extended and courageous battle with Alzheimers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roman on October 17, 1999; daughter, Carol on August 12, 2007; brothers Arthur, Walter, Harold, Alfred and Louis;and sister, Marcella Fedewa. Cecelia was born on December 13, 1918 in Fowler, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Knoop) Rademacher. She graduated from Most Holy Trinity School in Fowler. She married Roman J. Platte of Westphalia in 1941 and they resided on the Platte farm until 1945, when they moved to the Village of Westphalia.
She was employed by Snitgen Brothers General Store until 1958. She and her husband owned and operated Platte’s Bar and Grill from 1958 to 1979. She was Deputy Clerk for the Township of Westphalia from 1982 to 1992 when she retired. Cecelia was a member of St. Mary’s Church, a past officer of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers,and a charter member and past regent of the Daughters of Isabella.
She is survived by her children David of Traverse City, Thomas (Kathy) and Dennis (Lucy) both of Lansing; 14 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; brothers Isidore (Dorothy) Rademacher, Roman (Rosie) Rademacher, Norman (Arlene) Rademacher and Jerome (Joan) Rademacher; and many nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Msgr. Sylvester Fedewa at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 16, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Thursday at the St. Mary’s Funeral Chapel. The rosary will be prayed 3 p.m. and a Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 8 p.m.


Agnes H. Thornton
Agnes H. Thornton died Sunday, July 11, 2010 at the age of 84. She was born August 29, 1925 in Fairfield Township, Shiawassee County, Michigan the daughter of John and Louise (Pokorny) Doubrava. She was a member of the ZCBJ Lodge in Bannister, Michigan and a homemaker. On April 27, 1945 she married Cleon Thornton and he preceded her in death in 1996. Agnes was also predeceased by a son Bruce.
Surviving are two daughters, Judy (Leon) Snyder of Ovid and Janet (Ed) Kayser of DeWitt Township; one son, Gailen (Shawn) Thornton of Hubbard Lake, Michigan; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one sister, Anna Korienek of Lansing; one brother, Rudy Doubrava of Elsie and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00AM Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Pastor Kathy Leydorf officiating. Interment will follow at Ford Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 2-4 and 6-8PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Sparrow Home Hospice P.O. Box 30480 Lansing, MI 48909-9986.


Paula J. Rann
God carried Paula J. Rann home on July 7, 2010. She was known by many and loved by all. Paula’s wish was for a Celebration of Life Ceremony which will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2010, 11:00 A.M. at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home in St. Johns.
Paula was born on March 22, 1948 in Owosso the daughter of Wilmer and Rita (Gorman) Rann. She graduated from Davison High School and worked the majority of her life as a beautician and had most recently retired from Fifth Third Bank, the DeWitt Branch. Paula loved spending time with her grandkids, having a good time, hot rod cars, and movies. Although she really didn’t like to, she was a great cook.
She is survived by her children, Sean L. Hammond of Owosso, and Nicole (Matthew) Stewart of Owosso; grandchildren, Jillian, Jack and Charlie Stewart; brother, William (Vonda) Rann of Ovid; sisters, Mary (Bob) Wilson of Texas, Sally (Richie) Taylor of Ovid and Tammy (Fred) Heumann of Haslett. Many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and relatives at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Friday, July 9, 2010, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.


Kari Ann Dingey
Kari Ann Dingey, age 52, of St. Johns, MI passed away and became absent from the body and present with the Lord on Sunday, July 4, 2010 at Sparrow Health Systems, Lansing, MI.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Grove Bible Church, St. Johns, MI, at 7:00 PM with Pastor Bob Prange, Pastor Larry Smith, and Pastor Timothy Van Loh officiating. There will be visitation for an hour before the service.
Kari was born in St. Johns, Michigan on September 15, 1957, the daughter of Vincent Edward Hudson and Marilyn Joan (Slater) Easlick. Kari married Jeff Dingey on July 23, 1977 in Ovid and he survives her. She has worked as a Certified Pharmacy Technician at Sparrow Hospital Lansing, MI, for 17 years. She was also the accountant at Jeff’s Autobody in Ovid. She loved spending time with her family, reading and spending time in the outdoors. She attended Grove Bible Church.
In addition to her husband Jeff she is survived by her sons; Jacob (Melissa) Dingey; Joshua Dingey; Joseph Dingey all of St. Johns, MI, her mother Joan Easlick of St. Johns, MI, and her brother Benjamin and Brenda Hudson of Ovid. She was predeceased by her father and her brother Timothy Hudson.

Doris M. Darling
Doris M. (Pickering) Darling, age 86, of Ovid, MI passed away peacefully at home, Sunday, July 4th, after a long journey through Alzheimer’s. Doris was a vibrant resident of Ovid for nearly 65 years and an active member of the community, serving her church (United Methodist), service organizations (Acme Society) and the village library for many years.
She will be greatly missed by her devoted husband Harvey, her three children and their spouses, Ronald Darling (Terry), Pamela Tyner (Joseph) and Rosemary Baese (Kirk), her grandchildren, Ryan Baese, Nicholas Darling, Breanna Colville, and Kathryn Tyner, as well as her great-grandchildren, Jack Baese and Lucy Darling. Also survived by her two brothers, James Pickering (Irma) of Grand Blanc, MI and John Pickering (Harriet) of Mobile, AL.
Doris was born January 25, 1924 to English immigrants, John and Kate Pickering in Flint, MI where her father worked for General Motors in freight logistics. She worked at General Motors Institute as a secretary and lived with her parents through WWII. There, she kept up a lively and faithful correspondence with Harvey during his military service in the Pacific. She moved to Ovid when they married in 1947 and Harvey returned to the family business, Darling’s Hardware. They shared their home on Main Street throughout their 63 year marriage.
Her family remembers her terrific sense of humor, her sense of adventure, and her great love of art, literature, children, and the beauty of the natural world.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 7, at 10:00 am at the United Church of Ovid, 131 W. Front St., Ovid. Burial will follow at Fairfield Cemetery, Carland. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ovid-Elsie Community Fund in memory of Doris. A visitation will be held Tuesday, July 6th, from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, 232 E. Oak St., Ovid. John Adam Czachowrski
John Adam Czachowrski age 85, passed away Friday, July 2, 2010 at his home in Lansing with his two children by his side. John was born in Bridgeville, MI. on March 1, 1925. John lived in the Colony as a young boy before moving to Elsie, where his parents bought a farm. John grew up there working on his fathers farm as well as neighboring farms until he was drafted at age 19 and served his country in the Army.
John met his future wife Joann Bunge in Owosso and they were married in St. Johns were they enjoyed 50 years of marriage until her passing in May 2002 . John and Joann rented small apartments so they could save money to build their own home. When they built their home on Ora St. back in the 1950’s, they were in the country. Years later the city limit was extended , putting John and Joann within the city limits. John loved the outdoors. He did a lot of trapping and fishing over the years but coon hunting was his passion. John hauled cars for a living and was a member of the Teamsters.
John is survived by two children, AnnMarie Czachowrski of Grand Ledge and Steven John Czachowrski of Lansing, sister, Mary Ujlaky, sisters in law, Betty Czachowrski, Sharon Cutler and Sue Isaac, one brother in law, Jerry Bunge and many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his wife Joann, his parents, William and Mary (Gurdziel) Czachowrski, brothers, William and Ed, sisters Wantina (Joe) Vanhorn, Anne Czachowrski and Lottie (Charles) Bohac.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm, on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Osgood Funeral Homes, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns, MI. 48879., with a two hour visitation taking place prior to the service at the funeral home from 11:00 – 1:00 pm. Pastor Kathy Leydorf will officiate and burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery.
