Randall M. Vining
Randall M. Vining, 88 of St. Johns, MI died Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Sparrow Hospital in the comfort and company of family . Randall was born on May 8, 1922 in St. Louis, MI the son of William and Florence (Wonnocott) Vining and graduated from Fulton-Middleton High School in 1940. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the 10th Armored Division, 90th Cavalry, Reconnaissance Troop A, and saw extensive action during the battle of the Bulge. He worked as Plant Manager for Stainless Ware in Detroit , was a police officer for Clare Municipal Police Dept and retired from Motor Wheel in Lansing. On Sept. 6, 1942 he married Katherine Marie Campbell in Trufant, MI. Randall enjoyed hunting, camping, gardening, baseball, his military history and especially his family. He was one of the founders of the Detroit area youth baseball program in the 1950’s.
He is survived by his wife Katherine, children, Lynn (Paula) Vining, Jeanette (Tim) Dana and Diane (Loren) Huss all of Coleman, MI and Richard (Peg) Vining of St. Johns, and 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Mother & Father and brothers, Ronald and Desmond.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Keith Stork officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Emerson Twp. MI.
The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home on Friday, July 30, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Susan J. Stinson
Susan J. Stinson, age 72, died July 24, 2010. Born May 7, 1938 in Harbor Springs, the daughter of John and Sarah (McGinnis) Spaulding, she was a retired elementary school Librarian. Always cooking and baking for others, she was famous for her fried chicken. She enjoyed spending time with family, flower gardening, and was a NASCAR fan.
Surviving her are children, Neil Stinson Jr., Brent (Heather) Stinson, Beth (Marshall Baker) Kellogg, all of Ovid, Cindy (Patrick) Teffner of Gladwin, brothers, David, Charles, Robin, sisters, Shirley, Sally, Becky and Ellen, ten grandchildren, one great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Barbara, and two brothers, John and Tommy.
A private memorial service was held, Thursday, July 29, 2010, at the Houghton Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, 232 E. Oak St., Ovid, with Rev. Cayle Beagle officiating, burial at Maple Grove Cemetery. She will be greatly missed.
Ralph E. Onstott
Ralph E. Onstott died July 27, 2010 at the age of 96. Born September 12, 1913 in Elsie, Michigan, the son of George and Jenny (Borden) Onstott. He retired from General Motors as an Inspector in 1970 after 37 ½ years of service. Ralph married Anna H. Sipka October 16, 1936 and she preceded him in death January 31, 1992 after 55 years of marriage.
He is survived by one son, Robert (Kathy) Onstott, Sr. of Greenville, four grandchildren, Capt. Julie Shepherd of San Antonio, Jamie (Karl) Brand of Greenville, Robert Onstott, Jr. of Orleans, Michigan, Tammy (Jack) Coffey of Lansing, four great grandchildren, Chuck Maybee, Keith Shepherd, Leandra and Lindsay Coffey, one great great grand daughter, Grace Maybee, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by two sons, Lyle and Edward Onstott, one grandson, Michael Brooks, one brother, Leo Onstott and two sisters, Marjorie Mowatt and Dorothy Lidle.
The family will receive friends 12-2 p.m., Friday, July 30, 2010, at the Osgood Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at 2 p.m., at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. David Hudgens officiating.
Leon F. Miller
Leon F. Miller, died July 26, 2010, at the age of 80. Born in Fowler, on May 22, 1930, the son of Ferdinand and Rose (Heiler) Miller. Leon served with the U.S. Army, he retired from General Motors where he was in Skilled Trades, was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Red and White Dairy Cattle Assoc., the MMPA, and the Holstein Assoc. Leon married Phyllis McIntyre on April 30, 1998, and she survives him.
Also surviving are his children, daughters, Marcia (Randy) Wing, Kathy (Lee) Shannon, Marilyn (Lane) Mally, Janet Miller, Jane (Todd Shellberg) Miller, Marybeth (Tony) Birchmeier, Leanne (Curt) LaLone, Bonnie (Bob) Turner, Nancy (Mike) McGuire, Janice (Jim) Woodworth, sons, Jim (Jamie) Miller, Robert (Carol) Miller, David (Ida) Miller, Alan (Kevin Hurd) Miller, Douglas (Jessica) Miller, Mark (Melissa) Miller, special cat, Kit Kat, forty six grandkids, many great grandkids, sister, Rita Cuthbert, and many neices and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Joan Miller, son, Russell Miller, brothers, John Faivor, Tom Faivor, Charles Faivor and Joe Miller.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 29, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating. Burial to follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends, Wednesday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns. Contributions may be made in Leon’s memory to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Gary Boettger
Gary “Moose” Boettger died peacefully on July 23, 2010, at the age of 66. He was born in St. Johns, Michigan, October 10, 1943 the son of Donald and Margaret (Rademacher) Boettger. Gary married Cheryl Ryan on September 5, 1986 and she survives him. Gary was an avid outdoorsman and had a life long love of hunting and fishing.
Gary is also survived by sons, Todd (Lisa) Boettger and Craig Boettger both of St. Johns, grandchildren, Ashleigh Boettger, Angela (Mike) Harvell and Tori Rueckert , great grandchildren, Cadence and Gregory Harvell, brothers, Allen (Jamie) Boettger and Dennis Boettger, as well as two neices. Gary was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, July 28 at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St, St. Johns., with Pastor David Hudgens officiating and burial to follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. John Roy Freund
John Roy Freund Westphalia Age 71, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 in Lansing, Michigan. He was born on July 11, 1939 in Westphalia, Michigan the son of Clarence and Beatrice (Milberg) Freund. Mr. Freund was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Sargeant in the Michigan National Guard, past President of the Michigan Equipment Dealers Association, as well as a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Sun City West. Roy was also a member of TPA, the Elks, Kiwanis, Eagles, and Prince of Peace Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Little John.
Surviving him are his loving wife of 47 years, Sherry Freund of Sun City West, AZ.; daughter, Angela (Jeffrey) Steiss of Perry, son, Jeffrey Freund of Mission Viejo, CA; siblings, Ann (Thomas) Lewis of Lansing, Kenneth (Linda) Freund of South Lyon, Mark Freund of Lansing, Robert (Mary Pat) Freund of South Lyon, Luke (Betsy) Freund of DeWitt and Stanley (Debbie) Freund of Lansing; 3 grandchildren, Samantha, Macy and Hunter; many special nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Peter Van Rooyen and Msgr. Sylvester Fedewa at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia, MI. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Westphalia, MI. The family will receive friends at the St. Mary’s Funeral Chapel, in Westphalia, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. Rosaries will be prayed at 3 and 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Jimmy V. Foundation or the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.
Marbeth G. Hynes
Marbeth G. Hynes, age 86, of St. Johns, MI passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at her home.
A Memorial Service will be held at Lowe United Methodist Church, St. Johns, MI on Monday, July 26, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Kathy Leydorf officiating. Burial of cremated remains with take place at Lowe Cemetery at a later date.
Marbeth was born in Lansing, Michigan on September 27, 1923, the daughter of Otis and Dora (Wherry) Capen. She grew up in Gratiot County and graduated from Rodney B. Wilson Center. She married Lyle on November 4, 1942 in Breckenridge, MI and he survives her. In addition to being a loving mother and homemaker, she owned and operated Hynes’ Bouquets. She was also an avid artist, working primarily in oil painting, a member of the St. Johns Art Guild, was an officer in the St. Johns T.O.P.S. Club, and was a 4-H leader for many years. She was a member of Lowe United Methodist Church and was a district officer for the United Methodist Women.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her daughter Judy and Larry Paksi of St. Johns, MI, sons; James and Pam Hynes of Crestview, FL, Daniel and Jonni Hynes of Fontana, CA, David and Janice Hynes of Auburn Hills, MI, granddaughters; Kelly Otten of Tucson, AZ, Lori Williams of Dallas, TX, Stacey Carlson of St. Johns, MI, grandsons; Aaron Hynes of Ontario, CA, Dustin Hynes of Alto Loma, CA, great-granddaughter Melissa Williams, great-grandson Nathaniel Williams, great-granddaughter Nichole Carlson, great-grandson Alexander Carlson, great-grandson Erich Hynes, great-granddaughter Amelia Hynes, and her brother Jack and Evelyn Capen of Saginaw, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Alex, Gerald, twin brother Max, and sister Goria.
Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, Sparrow Home Hospice, or Lowe United Methodist Church. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Johns Chapel St. Johns, Michigan.
Leona A. Rubley
Leona A. Rubley died Monday, July 19, 2010 at the age of 82. She was born July 7, 1928 in Lansing, Michigan the daughter of Everett and Cecil (Meyers) Crook. She married Robert Rubley on October 15, 1954 and he preceded her in death in 1999.
Surviving are two sons, Bruce Rubley and Thomas (Laurie) Rubley all of St. Johns; two step sons; Richard Rubley of Ohio and Robert Rubley Jr. of Charlotte; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Lucille Look of Lansing and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 1:00PM Friday, July 23, 2010 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Pastor George Brinley officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the funeral on Friday. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 310 N. Main St. Suite 100 Chelsea, MI 48118.
