Lona M. Silm

Lona M. Silm, died on October 19, 2010, at the age of 101. Born June 26, 1909 in Riley Township, Michigan the daughter of Christian and Anna (Rossow) Marten. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aide. Lona was a former Clinton Memorial Hospital Gift Shop volunteer. She married Martin H. Silm on May 16, 1934 and he preceded her in death July 8, 1965.
Lona is survived by daughter, Gladys (John Ernst) Ruestman and son, Charles (Theresa) Silm all of St. Johns, five grandchildren, Evelyn Peterson, Lynn (Sue Cook) Ruestman, Chloe, Michelle and Stephanie Silm , six great grandchildren and sister in law, Arlene Martin. In addition to her husband, Lona was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman Marten and an infant brother as well as a sister Ivah Klueckling. Contributions may be made in Lona’s memory to St. Peter Lutheran Church Faith, Family, forever Fund.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Monday, October 25, 2010 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, burial at St. Peter Cemetery with Pastor Jeffrey Heimsoth officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6-8 pm and Sunday from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm., at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 East Cass St. , St. Johns, MI. 48879. Richard A. “Sonny” Cornwell

Richard A. “Sonny” Cornwell died Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at the age of 98. He was born August 23, 1912 in Gibson City, Illinois the son of Oral and Lydia (Anderson) Cornwell. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in St. Johns and was Past Noble Grand with the Oddfellows. Sonny served in the U.S. Army, 6th Armored Division during WWII, was a life member of the American Legion, Post #153, was a member of the Clinton – Gratiot Voiture 868 of the 40 et 8 and served on the St. Johns Honor Guard. He was a former Assistant Chief with the St. Johns Fire Department and was founder and former owner of Cornwell Construction. Sonny moved to the St. Johns area in 1934 and met Clara Alberta Wilkie. They were married April 9, 1934 and she preceded him in death November 27, 2004. He was also predeceased by a son Dennis, November 8, 2009; one sister Opal Wood and three brothers, Russell, Gene and Roscoe.
Surviving is one son, Richard (Marleen) of St. Johns; daughter-in-law Karen Cornwell of Palm Desert, CA; two grandchildren, Richelle (Troy) Shaw of DeWitt and Cole Cornwell of Lansing; two great grandsons, Bryce and Brayden Shaw and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Keck-Coleman Funeral

, St. Johns with Pastor Lori Sykes officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery with military honors provided by the St. Johns Honor Guard. Dale L. Welton
Dale L. Welton, age 79, died on October 19, 2010. He was born in Maple Rapids, MI, on September 26, 1931, the son of Lester and Vivian (Scott) Welton. Dale was a retired Detective Sergeant with the Michigan State Police, a member of Lawrence Ave. United Methodist Church, a United States Air Force Veteran during the Korean War, a member of the American Legion, and Central MI Law Enforcement Assoc. He married Elizabeth Hultberg in August of 1989, and she survives him.
Also surviving are his four sons, Lawrence Welton of Traverse City, Robert (Lori) Welton of Dewitt, Timothy (Peggy) Welton of Dansville and Gary (Karen) Welton of Mason, their mother, Louise Face, and his stepson, Bryan Dotts of Port St. Lucie, FL., grandchildren, Jill (Aaron) Davis, Michael (Linda) Welton, Jessica Welton, Patrick Welton, Andrew Welton, Kristin Welton, Cody (Amber Patstone) Dotts, great grandchildren, Alyssa Welton, Aiden Welton, Elizabeth Ringlien, Ava Davis, Landon Welton, Owen Welton, Colby Dotts, sister, Marilyn Miles, and sister in law, Connie Welton, mother in law, Eunice Epley, brothers in law, Steve (Gloria) Hultberg, Frank (Sherry) Hultberg and many nieces , nephews and close friends. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Eugene Welton and father in law Don Epley.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 22, 2010, at the Lawrence Ave. United Methodist Church, 210 E. Lawrence Ave, Charlotte, with Pastor Terry Fisher officiating. Burial to follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery in St. Johns. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., on Thursday, at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns. Contributions may be made in Dale’s memory to the Trooper’s Assistance Fund or State Police Fallen Trooper Memorial, to be mailed to MSP Trooper’s Assoc., 1715 Abbey Rd., Suite B, East Lansing, MI, 48823. Gerald Diehm

Gerald L. Diehm, age 92, died October 17, 2010. Born in Clinton County, on August 8, 1918, the son of Herman and Lucille (Plowman) Diehm. Gerald was a retired farmer and had worked at Federal Mogul. He married Irene Nunemaker in Lansing, on August 31, 1940, and she preceded him in death on November 20, 1999.
Surviving is their son, Arkie (Darlene) Diehm of Barneveld, WI, three grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and one brother, Stuart Diehm of Lansing. Also preceding him in death was brother, Robert Diehm and sister, Geraldine Miller.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wed., October 20, 2010, at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns, with Pastor Kathy Leydorf officiating, burial to follow at the Dewitt Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m., on Tuesday and 10-11 a.m., prior to the service on Wed. Contributions may be made in Gerald’s memory to the American Cancer Society or Northpointe Community Church.

Etha Eisler
Etha Eisler, died October 14, 2010, at the age of 96. She was born in St. Johns, MI, on October 21, 1913, the daughter of Ernest and Retta (Fesler) Kuhns. Etha worked in the candy counter at the D & C Store in St. Johns for many years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Ladies Altar Society, St. Dorothy Guild and a former volunteer in the Clinton Memorial Hospital Gift Shop and Hazel Findlay Country Manor. On December 31, 1932, she married Maurice J. Eisler and he preceded her death on July 31, 1984.
Etha is survived by two daughters, Jean (Ted) Perry of Ithaca, and Kay (Ron) Atkinson, of St. Johns, five grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren. Etha is also survived by sisters in law, Edith Schavey, Donna Eisler and Kay Eisler, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Etha was preceded in death by one daughter, Maureen McLeod, two grandchildren, Pam Haskins and Mark Haskins, sister, Loraine Cornell and twin sister, Letha Bashore, and four brothers, Dean, Lyle, Lawrence and Gale Kuhns.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 18, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating, burial to follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Sunday, with a Vigil Service prayed at 7 p.m., at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns, MI. Memorials may be made to Hospice Advantage, Hazel Findlay Country Manor or St. Joseph School Education Fund.

Dorice Buckley
Dorice Buckley, age 89 of St. Johns, MI, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Grace Haven Assisted Living, St. Johns, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel, St. Johns, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 15, 2010 from 4-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Dorice was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on March 24, 1921 the daughter of John and Lillian (Norman) Evans. Dorice resided most of her life in the Detroit area. Dorice married John Peter Buckley in 1944. He passed away in February of 1960. Dorice loved to read and play cards.
Dorice is survived by 2 daughters; Jackie and Larry Plowman of St. Johns, MI, Sandra Marsh of Chicago, IL, 2 sons; Michael and Linda Buckley of St. Johns, MI, and Martin Buckley of Boston, MA, 12 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 sons; Scott, Randy, and Lloyd, 2 grandchildren; James and Kim, and 2 sisters; Norma and Dorothy.
Memorials may be made to Great Lakes Hospice. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel, St. Johns, MI.
