Martha A. Pease
Martha A. Pease passed away October 27, 2010, in Ovid, Michigan at the age of 91. Born in Alto, Michigan on November 27, 1918, she was the daughter of Elmer and Cora (Harris) Weir. Martha was a clerk Nick’s Fruit Market, and she was also a past member of the Houghton Lake Association. She married Harold L. Pease in Lansing, MI, on May 23, 1936, and he preceded her in death on January 30, 2006.
Surviving Martha are her three sons, Harold D. (Susan) Pease of Ovid, Richard (Diane) Pease of DeWitt and Roger (Sharon) Pease of Arizona, 19 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Martha is also survived by sister, Tressa Cornell of Owosso, and brothers, Elmer Weir and James Weir, both of Grand Ledge, and Eldon “Bud” Weir, of Lansing. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by grandchildren, Michael and Miriah Pease; great granddaughter, Valerie Pease; sisters Ruth Morgridge, Lila Lumbert, Orselia Matz, and brother Sidney Weir.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 1, 2010, at the Osgood Funeral Home, with Pastor Audie Clairmont officiating. The family will receive friends at the Osgood Funeral Home, 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, and 2-4 p.m. on Sunday. Contributions may be made in memory of Martha to The American Cancer Society-Lansing Office or The American Heart Assoc.-Lansing Office.

Estela A. Sturgis

Estela A. Sturgis, 45 of St. Johns died peacefully Monday, October 25, 2010 at Sparrow Hospital. She was born on August 9, 1965 in St. Johns, MI the daughter of Gamaliel and Victoria (Espinoza) Arias. Estela graduated from St. Johns High School in 1983 and had been the Homecoming Queen in 1982. She married David Sturgis on July 30, 1994 in St. Johns. Estela worked for the State of Michigan in the Dept. of Human Services for over 20 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, leader of the Children’s Liturgy and was very active in all church activities, active in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, JC’s, The Gridiron Club and was the “Queen of Volunteering.”
She is survived by her husband David; sons, Jake and Nicholas and daughter Isabelle all at home; sisters, Norma (Joe) Caudy of Freeland, Lydia (Pedro) Guerrero and Maria Elena (Hector) Trevino both of Donna, TX, Yolanda (Roy) Pena of Houston, TX; brother Fernando Zamora of Pharr, TX, her family of co-workers, her cats Amy and Jr. and dog Rush; parents in law, Barbara and Larry Sturgis of St. Johns, brother in law Scott (Mellisa) Sturgis of Mason, and Kevin (Carrie) Sturgis of Fowler; sister in law DeAnna (Jeff) Fenech of Okemos, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Abigail Arias and brother Frank Zamora.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010 with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, on Friday, Oct. 29, 2010, 2-8 P.M. A scripture service will be held at 7:30 P.M. Friday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family for the children’s education.


Margaret G. Slepr
Margaret G. Slepr, died Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at the age of 83. Born May 15, 1927 in St. Johns, Michigan the daughter of Leon and Crystal (Teachworth) Moore. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and worked for Uncle Johns Cider Mill for 25 years. Margaret married Keith Slepr August 31, 1945 and he survives her.
Also surviving are two daughters, Dorine Horn of Laingsburg, and Jo Ellen (Greg) Heidger of Merrill, one son, Dan Slepr of Las Vegas, five grandchildren, Joel and David Slepr, Kathy Devitt, Keith (Tiffany) Heidger, and Mindy (Duncan) Buchanan, great grandchildren, Kristopher Flowers, William Devitt and Lillie Heidger, two sisters, Ruth (Walter) Smith of Ashley and Diana (Richard) Barrett of St. Johns, sisters-in-law, Wilma Moore and Wenda Duflo . She was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, Jennifer Slepr, and three brothers, Leon Jr, Chancey and Richard Moore.
Margaret’s request was to have no visitation. Graveside Services will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Union Home Cemetery with Pastor Steve Lang officiating. Arrangements by Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Gratiot Humane Society, 2675 W. Washington St., Ithaca, MI. 48847.


Robert K. Howlett Jr.
Robert K. Howlett Jr., 55 of Grand Ledge, MI formerly of St. Johns died Monday, Oct. 25, 2010 at Hospice House of Mid Michigan. Bob was born Dec. 4, 1954 in Owosso, MI the son of Roy and Marlene (Denslow) Hawley. He graduated from Williamston High School in 1973 and was a member of Operating Engineers International Union #324 for 25 years. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Reith-Riley Construction Co. On Aug. 28, 1976 he married Deborah Spalding in Williamston. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, work and above all, his family.
Survived by his wife Deb, daughter Nicole (Jon) Monasmith of Tucson, AZ, son Jason (special friend Andrea) Howlett of Potterville, MI, “adopted” sons Mike Oberlin and Tim Kanaski; brothers Randy (Karen) Howlett of Holt, Bryan (Trina) Hawley of Webberville, Mi, Shawn Howlett of Cheboygan, MI. Sisters Kathy (Phil) Mathews of Greenville, Mi and Darlene Heald of Covina, CA; grandchildren, Dakota, Colte, Cauy and Weston Monasmith and Kadon and Kayle Howlett, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brother Ricky Jo and sister Leasia Howlett.
Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Paul Daniels officiating. Bruce L. Badeaux
Bruce L. Badeaux, 69 of St. Johns, MI passed away peacefully at home Monday, Oct. 25, 2010. Bruce was born on Feb. 17, 1941 in Holton, MI the son of Lewis I. and Kathlyn (Gibson) Badeaux. He graduated from Holton High School as valedictorian in 1959, and worked in manufacturing for several years, currently working for Jensen Plumbing in Lansing. Bruce married Pauline Edgerly on Oct. 11, 1975 in Stanwood, MI. He was a member of Eagles Club, loved deer hunting, puzzles, playing cards and going to Alba to the cabin.
He is survived by his wife Pauline, son James L. (Jerilynn) Jensen of Eagle, daughters Julie (John) Pirochta of Okemos, Marie Welter of Lansing, Monique (Tom) Hicks of St. Johns, Jill Ann Jensen of Huntington Beach, CA and Jamie (David) Cunningham of Auburn, MI; grandchildren, Lyle, Michael, Savannah Jensen, Austin-Tyler Welter, Kayelene, Rachel, Carmen, Amanda, Carla Jo, Jordan and Thomas Hicks, Paulina Jensen and Kyle Cunningham; brother William (Sharon) Badeaux of Muskegon, MI and sisters Luella (Bill) Nienow of Muskegon and Linda Gager of Holton, MI.
Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Friday, Oct. 29, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. with Pastor Kathy Leydorf officiating. Burial will follow at South Bingham Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010 at the funeral home, 2-8 P.M. Memorial contributions may be given to Hazel Findlay Rehabilitation Center. Alice M. Gallagher
Alice M. Gallagher, 75, passed away on Monday, October 25, 2010 in Bengal Township. Alice was born in Bengal Township, Michigan, December 11, 1934, the daughter of Edgar and Eleanor (Fernholz) VanElls. She retired from data processing at Federal Mogul Corporation after 34 years. On April 30, 1955, she married Dennis Gallagher and he preceded her in death on June 7, 1998.
Alice is survived by one daughter, Maurine (Ron) Mitchell of St. Johns, two sons, Michael (Sheryl) Gallagher of Fowler, and Patrick (Linda) Gallagher of St. Johns, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She also has seven sisters, Donna Kuripla, Jo Rogers, Rita Thelen, Thelma Miller, all of St. Johns, Helen Zezza of New Jersey, Dorothy (Carl) Witt of Dewitt, and Ruth Hufnagel of Lansing, two brothers, Jim VanElls of Florida, and Mike (Peg) VanElls of St. Johns, and two sister’s in law, Mary Pat (Gene) Hamilton of Saginaw, and Rosie Van Ells of Fowler. In addition to her husband, Alice was preceded in death by a sister, Arlene Walling and four brothers, William, Dick, Tom and Dale VanElls.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 29, 2010, at Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Wed. and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.,Thurs. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Vincent De Paul or Sparrow Hospice in memory of Alice.

MaryAnn Mizga
MaryAnn Mizga, 87 died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on October 23, 2010. Born in Ovid Township to George and Leonore (Wilmot) Olson on October 31, 1922. MaryAnn married Frank Mizga on June 1, 1941 and he preceded her in death on February 26, 1996 after 54 years of marriage. MaryAnn was a member of United Church of Ovid, The Acme Club and The Ovid Historical Society.
MaryAnn is survived by daughters, Marsha (Kenneth) Putnam of Elsie, and Missy (Steve Robedeau) Rouse of Holt. Also surviving, brother, James Olson, sister in law, Joyce Mizga, grandchildren, Jason (Tanya) Rouse, Chris (Dawn) Putnam, great grandchildren, John and Marah Putnam, Aidan and Kami Rouse, special friend, John Ladiski and many nieces, nephews, cousins and many special neighbors. MaryAnn was also preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at The Houghton Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, 232 E. Oak St, Ovid, with Pastor Robert Prange officiating and burial immediately following at Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 5-8 p.m. and Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family wishes contributions be made to Ovid Public Library or W.O.E.S. radio station.
