Robert L. Lawrence
Robert L. Lawrence, 76 of Ovid died peacefully at his home on December 28, 2010. Bob was born on August 31, 1934 in St. Johns, MI the son of Leslie and Gladys (Hartman) Lawrence. He graduated from Owosso High School in 1953 and worked at Michigan Milk Producers Assn in Ovid until he retired in 1997. Bob married Beverly A. Workman on June 26, 1954 in Owosso. He was a member of Ovid Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, NRA, enjoyed Ovid-Elsie Football, hunting and his family.
He is survived by his wife Beverly, son Robert (Angie) Lawrence of Ovid, daughters Cheri (Wayne) Bowen of Elsie and Debra Dunham of Ovid; 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, brothers Gary (Darlene) Lawrence of Florida, Allan (Sharon) Lawrence of Fife Lake, MI, Roger (Karen) Schultz of Ovid and Duane (Sally) Schultz of Owosso and a sister, Janet (Bill) Good of Owosso. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns on Friday, December 31, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Rick Alcaraz officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, 2-8 P.M. Memorials may be made to Clinton Hospice, The Alzheimer’s Assn or the family.
Margaret M. Platte
Margaret M. “Margie” Platte Westphalia Age 93, the good Lord came to take our mother on Christmas Day, December 25, 2010. Margie was born on September 5, 1917 the daughter of Edward and Anna (Zimmer) Lehman. She belonged to St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Christian Mothers. Margie loved music, her children and her grandchildren. .
She is survived by her children, Judy Edwards, Pat (Ken) Hafner, Katie (Bruce) Thelen, Diane (Charles) Bertram, Bernie (Clare) Feldpausch, Mary Lou (Tom) Lehman, Linda (Pete) Smith, Annie Hengesbach, Jackie (Steve) Wieber, Susie (Dave) Twiss, and Tina (Bill) Irrer; 65 grandchildren; and 124 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norm Platte; sons, Dennis and Thomas; and daughter Gloria.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. James Conlon at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 30, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., both Tuesday and Wednesday at the St. Mary’s Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St., Westphalia. The rosaries will be prayed at 3 and 8 p.m., both days. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Arrangements are entrusted to Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Homes, Portland.
Donald Ellsworth Beck
Donald Ellsworth Beck, died December 23, 2010, at the age of 63. He was born in St. Johns on May 17, 1947, the son of Oliver and Imogene (Harger) Beck.
Donald is survived by his wife, Deb (Goodrich), whom he married August 29, 1981, in Carland, Michigan. Also surviving is his daughter, Jeanette Beck of Ann Arbor, Donald’s mother, Imogene Beck of St. Johns, brother, Darrell (Patricia) Beck of St. Johns, four grandchildren, Franklin Kennedy Jr., Oliver S. Beck, Heath Beck, Heather Beck, mother in law, Thelma Goodrich, sister in law, Donna Thompson, brother in law, Dan (Mary) Goodrich, and many nieces and nephews. Donald was preceded in death by his father, Oliver Beck, father in law, Lewis Goodrich, and brother in law, David Thompson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday December 28, 2010, at The Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns, with Pastor Kathy Leydorf officiating.
