Kenneth Speerbrecker
Kenneth Speerbrecker, age 81, passed away Sunday, January 09, 2011 in Lansing, MI. Kenneth was born October 29, 1929 in Riley Township, Michigan the son of William and Helen (Coffman) Speerbrecker and lived in Riley Township all of his life. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Farm Bureau and a retired machine operator from Sealed Power Manufacturing after 41 ½ years. Ken married Dorothy Margaret Kampfe on October 16, 1952 and she preceded him in death, September 2, 1998.
He is survived by three sons, Rev. Paul (Sue) Speerbrecker of Janesville, WI, Rev. Dr. David (Maribeth) Speerbrecker of Homewood, IL and Stephen (Karen) Speerbrecker of DeWitt and one daughter, Ruth Ann (Paul Kimball) Speerbrecker of Kansas City, MO. Ken is also survived by his 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Kenneth was preceded in death by his two sons, James and Joseph Speerbrecker.
Funeral services will be, Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, burial at St. Peter Cemetery with Pastor Jeffrey Heimsoth officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 am preceding the service at the church. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the St. Peter Lutheran Church, School or Building Fund. The family was served by the Osgood Funeral Home.


Peter Kurncz
Peter Kurncz, age 83, of St. Johns, Michigan passed away Sunday, January 9, 2011 at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church St. Johns, Michigan on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at 10:00 A.M., Rev. Fr. Ken McDonald will officiate. Burial will take place at Mt. Rest Cemetery St. Johns, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 and 6-8 and Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Johns Chapel St. Johns, MI.
Peter was born in St. Johns, Michigan on August 28, 1927, the son of Michael and Anna (Porada) Kurncz. On August 8, 1953 he married Marian (Andres) Kurncz in St. Michaels Catholic Church in Maple Grove, Michigan. Pete was a farmer, and he enjoyed having his family home and playing cards, and watching things grow in the field. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the K of C St. Johns, and the Slovak Society.
He is survived by his wife Marian Kurncz of St. Johns, MI, 3 daughters; Ann and Dan Connelly of Birmingham, MI, Gloria and Gary Barker of Gross Point Farms, MI, Michelle and Kevin Kent of Sanford, MI, 1 son Peter Kurncz of St. Johns, MI, 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, brother Nick and Tina Kurncz of St. Johns, MI. He was predeceased by his parents, and 2 brothers Michael and John Kurncz.

L.C. Kindel
L.C. Kindel, age 95, of Elsie, MI passed away Monday, January 10, 2011 at Grace Haven Assisted Living, St. Johns, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at East Washington United Brethren Church, Ashley, MI on Friday, January 14, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Jerry Drummond will officiate. Burial will follow at North Star Cemetery, North Star, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday January 13, 2011 from 2-8 PM at East Washington United Brethren Church, Ashley, MI.
L.C. was born in Ashley, Michigan on May 24, 1915, the son of Fred and Maud (McDonald) Kindel. He was a graduate of Ashley High School and resided most of his life in Elsie. L.C. married Mearl Kellogg on March 28, 1937 in Ashley, MI.
L.C. retired from Federal Mogul Corp. He also worked as a farmer for many years. L.C. was a steam engine enthusiast, using his machinist skills to build a steam traction engine. His love for God and his family were the most important parts of his life. L.C. was a member of East Washington United Brethren Church, Ashley, MI.
He is survived by his wife Mearl of 74 years, son Richard and Barbara Kindel of Goshen, IN, daughter Kathleen and Walter Kinsey of Brant, MI, son Larry and Cindy Kindel of St. Johns, MI, 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson. L.C. was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter at birth and 4 brothers.
Memorial contributions may be made to East Washington United Brethren Church. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, Michigan.
Vicky L. Cockrum
Vicky L. Cockrum, 54 of St. Johns, MI. died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2011 at Laurels of Carson City. She was born on Sept. 8, 1956 in Flint, MI the daughter of James C. and Jacqueline A. (Harvey) Batton. Vicki graduated from Redford Union High School, had worked at Lear Corp. in Elsie and was a homemaker. On Jan. 13, 2000 she married Mark Cockrum in Las Vegas, NV. She enjoyed riding on motorcycles, reading, shopping and being with friends.
She is survived by her husband Mark; parents Jim and Jacqueline Bratton of Hart, MI; sons Rayford Wilson III of Arizona and Mark Cockrum Jr. of St. Johns; grandchildren, Dylan Boron, Devin Boron, Sawyer, Tanner and Callan Cockrum; sisters Sharon (Russ) Johnson and Linda (Mike) Buckley. She was preceded in death by daughter Nicole Boron, aunt Rosie Hamilton, sister Pamela Lynn Cripps.

Michelle M. Wenzlick
Michelle M. Wenzlick, 44 of rural St. Johns, MI died Thursday Jan. 6, 2011 following a courageous battle with cancer. Michelle was born on July 31, 1965 the daughter of Melvern and Elizabeth (Nickert) Pearson. She graduated from DeWitt High School in 1983 and attended LCC receiving her Associates Degree. On July 18, 1992 she married James Wenzlick in DeWitt. Michelle was a member of Pilgrim United Methodist Church, was a St. Johns Schools volunteer and a Girl Scout Leader. She worked as a teller at St. Johns Michigan Federal Credit Union in St. Johns.
She is survived by her husband Jim; daughters Vanessa, Olivia and son Alexander Wenzlick; mother Elizabeth Pearson of Carson City, MI; brother, Richard (Lori) Pearson of Carson City, MI and sister Viki (Rick) Jacobsen of Newbury Park, CA; parents in law, Richard and Stella Wenzlick of Maple Rapids, brothers in law, Timothy (Anita)
Wenzlick and Don (Vicki) Wenzlick of Mulliken. Sisters in law, Linda (Ken) Hatch of Alpena, Mary (Brett) Claxton of Grayling, Nancy (Rick) Santel of Trenton, IL, Dianne (Gordon) Hunsaker of Bath, Carol (Ken) Wrigglesworth of St. Johns and Becky (Mike) Hayes of DeWitt.
Funeral services will be held at Pilgrim United Methodist Church, 2965 W. Parks Rd., St. Johns, on Monday, January 10, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Ken Bremer officiating. Burial will be at New Haven Cemetery, Carson City, MI. The family will receive friends at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 8th and 9th, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Memorials may be given to her children.


Thomas Danley
Thomas Eric Danley, died December 17, 2010, at the age of 63. He was born in St. Johns on March 1, 1947, the son of Jack and Agnes (Kussmaul) Danley.
Thomas is survived by his brother David (Judith) Danley of Cincinnati, Ohio, nieces Kristin (Mike) Jarvie of Rudyard, MI, Cheryl (Richard) Hennessy of Hamilton, Ohio, great nieces, Isabelle Hennessy, Alexis Hennessy, Leah Jarvie and great nephew, David Jarvie. Tom is also survived by his aunt, Pearl Tucker of Lansing, and numerous cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Services are private. The family is being served by The Osgood Funeral Home of St. Johns.
