Richard Rahl
Richard Rahl died February 22, 2011, at the age of 83. He was born in St. Johns, Michigan on May 26, 1927, the son of Alfred and Verona (Esch) Rahl. He was a retired housekeeper at Clinton Memorial Hospital, but he will be fondly remembered delivering newspapers and other items for local businesses around town.
Richard is survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Geraldine Martin and brothers, Theodore “Ted” Rahl and Merlyn “Dutch” Rahl.
There will be no services held at this time and a burial will be scheduled in the Spring. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to the American Diabetes Association. The family is being served by the Osgood Funeral Home.


Lorene Foerch
Lorene Foerch passed away on February 21, 2011 at the age of 95. She was born in Essex Township, Michigan on November 10, 1915, the daughter of Arthur and Kate (Hinman) Fayrweather. On October 15, 1934 she married Gail Foerch in St. Johns and he preceded her in death on August 28, 1994.
Lorene is survived by her daughters, Ruth (Horace) Howell of Maple Rapids and Mary Ellen Withrow of St. Johns; her sons, Bill (Ruth) Foerch of Fowler, Glen “Butch” (Bernie) Foerch of St. Johns and Tom (Diane) Foerch of Fowler. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and one great great grandson and her sister Adelaide Weeks. Along with her parents and husband, Lorene was preceded in death by her bother, Max Fayrweather and granddaughter, Becky Stevens.
There will be a private memorial service held at a later date. Sympathy may be shared with memorial contributions made to a charity of her family’s choice.

Stuart M. Smith
Stuart M. Smith died, February 21, 2011, at the age of 80. Born in St. Johns, Michigan on September 19, 1930, the son of Melvin and Murial “Lorene” (Wyman) Smith. Stuart married Arlene (Conley) on October 10, 1948 and she survives him.
He is also survived by two daughters, Cindy (Michael) Wright of Fowler, Rev. Wendy ( Rev. Anthony) Buonodono of Elgin Texas, son, Jeffrey (Lisa) Smith of St. Johns, sisters, Shirley (Wheeler) Wilson, Sybil Glowacki, brother in law, Edgar Conley, grandchildren, Spencer (Melissa) Wright, Michelle (Frank) Upton, Melissa (Aaron) Hetherington, Marla Buonodono, Barry Smith, Tyler Smith, Andrea Smith, Rachel Smith, Devin Smith, Taya Smith, great grandchildren, Jaren Argersinger, Nicholas and Grace Wright, Emily and Megan Upton, Paige and Ryder Hetherington. Stuart was preceded in death by his parents, son, Barry, and great granddaughters, Stacy Wright and Cindy Buonodono.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 25, 2011, at The Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns, Pastor Kathy Leydorf officiating with a special service by Stuart and Arlene’s daughter and son in law, Rev. Wendy and Rev. Anthony Buonodono. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, at The Osgood Funeral Home.

Edward Richard Batora, Sr.
Edward Richard Batora, Sr. age 76, of Elsie, MI died Friday, February 18, 2011 at Ingham Regional Medical Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church Bannister, MI on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 10:00 A.M., Rev. Fr. Wolfgang Streichardt will officiate. Burial will take place at Ford Cemetery, Gratiot County, MI. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 20, 2011 from 5-8 P.M. and on Monday, February 21, 2011 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI. Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 P.M. Monday at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI.
Edward was born in Elsie, MI on May 13, 1934 the son of Joseph and Rose (Kral) Batora. Ed married Delores Kay Miros on October 15, 1960 and they celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2010. Ed was a lifelong farmer and retired from Federal Mogul in 2001. He was a member of St. Cyril’s Catholic Church and a charter member of the Bannister Knights of Columbus Council.
Ed was a loving husband, dad and grandpa to; his wife Delores, daughter Theresa and Charlie Price of Elsie, son Brian Batora of Bannister, daughter Brenda Batora-Hoffman of Laingsburg, daughter Michelle Batora of Elsie, daughter Cheryl and Mark McHallam of Flushing, MI, daughter-in-law, Karen Batora of Elsie, 10 grandchildren; Michael, Kristine, Leah Batora, Claudia and Jack Price, Lauren and Lucas Hoffman, Adam and Abagail Halm and Mya McHallam. He is also survived by one sister, Helen (William) Spaleny of Flushing and one brother, Joseph (Pauline) Batora, Jr. of Bannister. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, one son Edward Richard “Rick” Batora, Jr. and one brother Frank Batora.

Roland C. Garcia
Roland C. Garcia died February 18, 2011 at the age of 78. Born in Maple Rapids, Michigan on December 14, 1932, the son of Luciano and San Juana (Castillo) Garcia. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Ovid, American Legion, National Rifle Association, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Loyal Order of Moose. Roland served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. On August 16, 1963 Roland married Elvia Ortiz and she preceded him in death on May 5, 2010.
Roland is survived by his daughter, Jackie DeSander; son, Luciano Garcia; granddaughters, Mehgan and Seneca DeSander; grandsons, Hunter DeSander and Little Lou Garcia; sisters, Francis and Eva Zuniga, Christina Roldan and Rebecca Garcia and brothers, John, Daniel, Robert, Mersed and Randolph Garcia. Along with his wife and parents, Roland was preceded in death by his sister, Suzanne Massey and brothers, Lewis and Edward Garcia.
Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Ovid with the Rev. Fr. Ray Urbanek officiating. Burial will follow the luncheon at Mt. Rest Cemetery in St. Johns. The family will receive friends from 5-8 Sunday and 5-8 PM Monday at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes in Ovid. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 PM Monday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the charity of the family’s choice.


Harry J. Harden
Harry J. Harden, age 93, of Elsie, MI passed away Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Ovid Healthcare, Ovid, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Duplain Church of Christ, St. Johns, MI on Monday, February 21, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. Chuck Emmert, Minister of Duplain Church of Christ and Mr. Phil Beavers will officiate. Burial will follow at Duplain Township Cemetery, St. Johns, MI. Visitation will be held on Saturday February 19, 2011 from 6-8 PM. and on Sunday, February 20, 2011 from 2-8 PM with family present 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel, Elsie, MI.
Harry was born in Hudson Township, Michigan on October 6, 1917, the son of Frank and Flossie (Webster) Harden. He graduated from Addison High School, Addison, MI. Harry married Thelma Flint on September 6, 1942 in Osseo, Michigan. He resided most of his life in Elsie.
Harry was a farmer his whole life. He also worked in the Soil Conservation Service for the Federal Government and as the ASCS Office Manager for Genesee County. Harry served as the Clinton County Drain Commissioner. He loved hunting, fishing and golfing. Harry was an active member of the Duplain Church of Christ and served on the Elder Board. He also was a member of the Elsie Lion’s Club for 50 years. Harry enjoyed his retirement in Punta Gorda, Florida.
Harry is survived by his wife Thelma Harden of Elsie, MI, daughter Roberta and Jay Wiseman of St. Johns, MI, son Robert and Julie Harden of Ovid, MI, son Bruce and Patsy Harden of St. Johns, MI, daughter Brenda and Mark Masarik of St. Johns, MI, son Charles and Rosanne Harden of St. Johns, MI, daughter-in-law Judy Harden of Elsie, MI, 16 grandchildren; Rhonda, Rick, Roxanne, Rob, Brad, Matt, Laurie, Kathy, Karen, Kelly, Jeff, Jamie, Eric, Michael, Brianna and Johnathan, 28 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and sister Velma and Ed Carpenter of Hudson, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank Harden and Flossie Underhill, son William J. Harden, granddaughter Lindsey Harden, brother Leroy Harden and sister Neva Bills.
