Gospel music soars at Concert in the Park

August 15
Sweet sounds of Gospel music and traditional favorites – that’s what Concert in the Park guests will enjoy Aug. 15 at the St. Johns City Park Performance Shell. The Trommaters and The Thurston Family Band are set to perform in the all-Gospel show that begins at 7 p.m.; no admission charge.
Pat and Bill, the husband-wife team that comprises The Trommaters, have been performing Gospel and traditional country and folk music for more than 25 years. The Trommaters provide their own accompaniment on guitars and banjo, and are well known for their close harmony, smooth vocal blend and high energy on stage.
Listeners will be treated to both “old time” and “new” praise music, along with standards from The Trommaters’ CDs that are regarded as their “theme songs.” Possible titles include: “Sweeter as the Days Go By,” “Feeling Fine,” “Two Hands,” “Right on Time,” “If the Lord Wasn’t Walking by My Side” and a banjo medley of traditional songs.
The Thurston Family Band, featuring another prominent husband-wife duo, takes the stage in the second half of the Gospel program. Dave and Marni have “lived the dream” of singing Gospel music together as a family since 2005, performing over 100 concerts a year across the country with their sons, Brandon, Adam, Cameron and Mitchel. Adding their considerable talents to the Thurston Family are pianist, Fred Udell and lead vocalist, Ron Lucas.
The Thurstons were invited to perform at the National Quartet Convention in Louisville, Kent, in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Their music has impacted lives all across the country with the help of Gospel Music Radio where their music has ranked in the charts of Gospel Music on several occasions.

Concert in the Park is sponsored by the Clinton County Arts Council and the city of St. Johns, with support from the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts. In addition, Stony Creek Essential Oils is being recognized at the Aug. 15 concert for its financial support of the Arts Council and the summer music series.
Concerts are held each Wednesday evening, beginning at 7 p.m., in the St. Johns City Park. The St. Johns Lions and Lioness Club staff a concession stand that offers light refreshments. All concerts are held rain or shine.
