City receives DALMAC Fund grant

Rails to Trails
The City of St. Johns has received a $4,000 grant from the DALMAC Fund to place a bike “fix it” station and several bike racks in the downtown area near the new Fred Meijer Clinton Ionia Shiawassee Trail. The Traill will be completed this year.

April Wilson, Administrative Assistant and Grants Coordinator for St. Johns Police and Fire Departments, recently gave a presentation to the Tri-County Bicycle Association regarding the grant application. Tri-County Bicycle Association has served bicyclists in mid-Michigan since 1972. TCBA volunteers make possible the Dick Allen Lansing to MACkinaw (DALMAC) tour. Annually on Labor Day weekend, more than 2000 participants enjoy 4 or 5 days riding their bicycles from Lansing to Mackinaw City (or beyond!). Through the DALMAC Fund, TCBA provides funding to bicycling projects all over Michigan.
The DALMAC Fund was established in 1975 to promote bicycling in Michigan. Half of the profit from the annual Dick Allen Lansing to Mackinaw bicycle ride, DALMAC, is set aside as the DALMAC Fund. The DALMAC Fund goals include:
1. Improve the bicycling environment in Michigan
2. Expand bicycling in Michigan
3. Promote good will towards bicycling in the community
4. Increase bicycle safety
The City appreciates the generosity of the DALMAC Fund and are excited to see this project completed.
